The Citadel Bulldogs
The Citadel Bulldogs are the athletic teams that represent The Citadel. All sports participate in the NCAA Division I except football, which competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). Since 1936, varsity sports have competed in the Southern Conference. The Citadel fields teams in sixteen sports, nine for men and seven for women. The Citadel is one of only two Division I schools that do not sponsor women's basketball; the other is fellow Southern Conference member and senior military college VMI. The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, commonly known simply as The Citadel, is a Public college, public United States senior military college, senior military college in Charleston, South Carolina. Established in 1842, it is one of six senior military colleges in the United States. It has 18 academic departments divided into five schools offering 31 majors and 57 minors. The military program is made up of cadets pursuing bachelor's degrees who live on campus. The non-military programs offer 12 undergraduate degrees, 26 graduate degrees, as well as evening and online programs with seven online graduate degrees, three online undergraduate degrees, and three certificate programs. The Citadel Bulldogs Basketball
The Citadel Bulldogs basketball team represents The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina in the sport of men's college basketball. The program is classified in the NCAA's Division I, and the team competes in the Southern Conference South Division. Ed Conroy is in his second stint as the head coach, having previously held the position from 2006–2010. The team has never won a regular season or Southern Conference men's basketball tournament championship or participated in the NCAA Tournament. Pat Conroy
Donald Patrick Conroy (October 26, 1945 – March 4, 2016) was an American author who wrote several acclaimed novels and memoirs; his books '' The Water is Wide'', ''The Lords of Discipline'', ''The Prince of Tides'' and ''The Great Santini'' were made into films, the last two being nominated for Oscars. He is recognized as a leading figure of late-20th-century Southern literature. Major League Baseball Draft
The first-year player draft is the primary mechanism of Major League Baseball (MLB) for assigning amateur baseball players from high schools, colleges, and other amateur baseball clubs to its teams. The draft order is determined based on a lottery where the teams who did not make the postseason in the past year participate in a state-lottery style process to determine the first six picks, starting in 2023. Tony Skole
Tony Skole (born September 26, 1968) is an American baseball coach and former third baseman, who is the current head baseball coach of The Citadel Bulldogs. He played college baseball and college football at The Citadel from 1988 to 1992. He previously served as head coach of the East Tennessee State Buccaneers (2000–2017). Playing career Skole played baseball and football at The Citadel Bulldogs, a key part of several memorable teams in both sports. In baseball, he was part of the team that reached the 1990 College World Series and drove in the go-ahead run against Cal State Fullerton in the Bulldogs only win in Omaha. ''Collegiate Baseball Newspaper'' (also known as ''Collegiate Baseball Magazine'' and ''Collegiate Baseball'') is an American publication based in Arizona that considers itself the "voice of amateur baseball" which has been published for over 40 years. The publication gives out several awards: ''Collegiate Baseball'' Player of the Year, ''Collegiate Baseball'' Coach of the Year, and ''Collegiate Baseball'' All-Americans. It is published twice a month from January until June, and then once each in September and October. The "Collegiate Baseball" newspaper poll is college sports' oldest baseball poll. 1990 College World Series
The 1990 NCAA Division I baseball tournament was played at the end of the 1990 NCAA Division I baseball season to determine the national champion of college baseball. The tournament concluded with eight teams competing in the College World Series, a double-elimination tournament in its forty fourth year. Eight regional competitions were held to determine the participants in the final event. Each region was composed of six teams, resulting in 48 teams participating in the tournament at the conclusion of their regular season, and in some cases, after a conference tournament. The Southern Conference baseball tournament is the conference championship tournament in baseball for the Southern Conference. The winner of the tournament receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I baseball tournament. The event is scheduled for the Tuesday through Saturday before Memorial Day each year, five days prior to the NCAA Regionals. Tournament The Southern Conference Baseball Tournament is held annually. The Citadel Bulldogs rifle team represents The Citadel in rifle. They compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association and in the Southern Conference. The Citadel Bulldogs Wrestling
The Citadel Bulldogs wrestling team represents The Citadel of Charleston, South Carolina. The squad is led by head coach Ryan LeBlanc, and assistant coach Luke Welch. The Bulldogs are members of the Southern Conference and have won conference championships in 1967 and 2004. As of 2014, the Bulldog wrestling team has made 14 NCAA championship team appearances. The Citadel's highest placement in school history was in 2013, when they finished 20th in the final NCAA Wrestling Team Championship standings. Vandiver Hall is the practice facility on campus for the wrestling team, while McAlister Field House hosts home dual meets and tournaments, also located on campus. The Citadel Bulldogs Women's Volleyball
The Citadel Bulldogs volleyball team represents The Citadel in the sport of indoor volleyball. The Bulldogs compete in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) and the Southern Conference (SoCon), and play their home matches in McAlister Field House on the school's Charleston, South Carolina campus. They are currently led by head coach Dave Zelenock, who in 2018 led his first season. The team was established in 1998 shortly after the integration of women into the South Carolina Corps of Cadets. Volleyball was the first women's team sport established at The Citadel. On November 21, 2021, the Bulldogs completed a run through the Southern Conference Volleyball Tournament to claim their first championship, and also their first conference title in any women's team sport.
