The Circus Tents
The Circus Tents were an American band active from 1989 to 1993 from Grass Valley, California, United States. It consisted of Matt Wedgley as the lead vocalist, Jon Sortland on drums, Chad Cox on bass, Scot Pickering and Jeff Jones on guitar. They released a 12 song self-titled cassette tape in 1990 (only 100 copies being made) and a 4 song 7" record titled ''Hard Up'' on Insurrection Records in 1992 (only having 1,000 copies made). They had a couple of songs featured on early Powell Peralta skate videos for Chris Senn. They achieved international publicity when Billie Joe Armstrong put a Circus Tents sticker on his guitar and AFI covered their song "Open Your Eyes" on their record ''Answer That and Stay Fashionable''. The Circus Tents also recorded the song "I Hate Cops" by The Authorities for an unreleased tribute album to The Authorities, which also featured the bands Screeching Weasel and The Meatmen. Grass Valley, California
Grass Valley is a city in Nevada County, California, United States. Situated at roughly in elevation in the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, this northern Gold Country city is by car from Sacramento, from Sacramento International Airport, west of Reno, and northeast of San Francisco. As of the 2010 United States Census, its population was 12,860. Screeching Weasel
Screeching Weasel is an American punk rock band consisting of Ben Weasel (vocals), Mike Kennerty (guitar), Mike Hunchback (guitar), Zach "Poutine" Brandner (bass) and Pierre Marche (drums). Screeching Weasel is originally from the Chicago suburb of Prospect Heights, Illinois. The band was formed in 1986 by Ben Weasel and John Jughead. Since their formation, Screeching Weasel have reformed several times with lineup changes. Ben Weasel has been the only constant member, though Jughead was present in every incarnation of the band until 2009. The Shins
The Shins is an American indie rock band formed in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1996. The band is the project of singer-songwriter James Mercer, who has served as the band's sole constant member throughout numerous line-up changes. The band's current line-up consists of Mercer, alongside Yuuki Matthews (bass, keyboards), Mark Watrous (guitar, keyboards, lap steel), Patti King (keyboards), and Jon Sortland (drums). They are based in Portland, Oregon. The band was formed by Mercer as a side project to Flake Music, who were active from 1992 to 1999. Broken Bells is an American indie rock band composed of artist-producer Brian Burton (better known as Danger Mouse) and James Mercer, the lead vocalist and guitarist for the indie rock band The Shins. Broken Bells compose and create as a duo, but are joined by Dan Elkan and Jon Sortland when performing live. The previous live band included Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band sidemen Nate Walcott and Nik Freitas, and Jonathan Hischke and Dan Elkan, both ex-members of Hella. Cigar is an American punk rock band from Eugene, Oregon, and, later, San Diego, California, United States. Cigar was formed in 1996, discovered by Fletcher Dragge of the band Pennywise (band), Pennywise and signed to Theologian Records in 1997. Its first album, ''Speed is Relative'', was released in 1999 and produced by Fletcher Dragge. Viva Hate (band)
Viva Hate is a rock band that was formed late in the summer of 2004 by Geoff Kresge after he left Tiger Army. Shortly after forming Viva Hate, Kresge was asked to join the HorrorPops, with whom he played guitar with from 2004 to 2006, although the official statement of his departure was not made until the summer of 2007, leaving many questions regarding the nature of his parting ways with the HorrorPops. Kresge was previously the bassist for AFI from 1992 to 1997. Lead vocalist Matt Wedgley was formerly a member of The Force with Hunter Burgan of AFI. In February 2007, the band announced that Greg McEntee of Swingin' Utters joined on drums. Hunter Burgan
Hunter Lawrence Burgan (born May 14, 1976) is an American multi-instrumentalist. He is the third and current bassist of AFI. Biography Burgan was born in Los Angeles County, California and grew up in Grass Valley, California. He is a vegan. Career Burgan was in a band called the Force at the time he joined California rock band AFI. He was meant to be a temporary replacement for the existing bassist, Geoff Kresge, for a few tours and a record, ''Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes'', but eventually became AFI's full-time bassist in November 1997. The Force broke up in September 1998. Burgan loves Prince's music and even had his own side-project called Hunter Revenge dedicated to singing early-80s-style R&B. A talented multi-instrumentalist, Burgan can play drums, bass, guitar, saxophone, clarinet, and piano.
