The Circumstance
''The Circumstance'' ( Italian: ''La Circonstanza)'' is a 1973 film written and directed by Ermanno Olmi. The film received a special mention at the 1974 San Sebastián International Film Festival. Plot Laura, a lawyer who comes from an upper-class Milanese family, leads an altogether placid life. After witnessing an almost-fatal motorcycle accident near her family's country home, she becomes obsessed with the young victim, leading to a series of flashbacks and introspective instants that probe the bourgeois life she leads. The San Sebastián International Film Festival ( SSIFF; es, Festival Internacional de San Sebastián, eu, Donostia Zinemaldia) is an annual FIAPF A category film festival held in the Spanish city of Donostia-San Sebastián in September, in the Basque Country. Derek Elley (born c. 1955) is an American film and music critic and author, best known as the resident film critic for ''Variety'' until his departure in March 2010. With over 1200 reviews to his credit as of December 2014 on ''Rotten Tomatoes'', he specialises in reviewing Asian films and joined '' Film Business Asia'' as chief critic upon its inception after leaving ''Variety'' in 2010. Elley was a music critic in the 1970s and 1980s, and authored the annual International Music Guides. In 1986 he published ''Dimitri Tiomkin: The Man and His Music'' in conjunction with the National Film theatre.
