The Cinder Path (film)
''The Cinder Path'' is a three part 1994 tv series produced by Yorkshire/Tyne Tees and directed by Simon Langton and based on the novel of the same name by Catherine Cookson. Plot introduction In the English countryside of the early 20th century, the prosperous, middle class farmer's son Charlie MacFell must deal with a cruel and tyrannical father and later with a romantic tangle and a problematic marriage. He must keep, as well, a dark secret which must stay hidden at all costs. Later, he is taken into the British Army fighting on the Western Front of the First World War, where the shadows of his past pursue him and lead to a climax. Simon Langton (television Director)
Simon Langton (born 5 November 1941 in Amersham, Buckinghamshire) is an English television director and producer. He is the son of David Langton, the actor who played Richard Bellamy in '' Upstairs, Downstairs''. After he had directed many TV drama series and serials during the 1970s, his version of the John le Carré novel ''Smiley's People'' (1982, adapted by John Hopkins) was nominated for both a BAFTA Award in the UK, and an Emmy Award in the US. He also received a BAFTA nomination for the series '' Mother Love'' (1989), starring Diana Rigg. He is perhaps best known for directing the adaptation of ''Pride and Prejudice'' (1995) starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle, for which he was again nominated for a BAFTA. Lucy Akhurst
Lucy Akhurst (born 18 November 1970) is an English actress, writer and director who has been working mainly in television since the 1990s. She starred alongside Neil Morrissey in ''The Vanishing Man'' and then came to prominence in a lead role in 1999's ITV Network, ITV seven-part drama ''Wonderful You (TV series), Wonderful You''. She appeared as Tim's (Simon Pegg) girlfriend for four episodes of UK comedy ''Spaced'' and also guest-starred as a zombie in Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright's comedy film ''Shaun of the Dead''. She also appeared in the 2004 series of the BBC's ''Monarch of the Glen (TV series), Monarch of the Glen''.
