The Chymes
The Chymes were an all-female 1960's garage rock group that was signed to Chattahoochee Records. The group consisted of sisters Stephanie, Candice and Irisse. They were first discovered by Howard Kaylan of '' The Turtles''. The group recorded their only songs in 1966, consisting of "He's Not There Anymore", which was released on a Chattahoochee 715 with a B side of their only other song "Quite A Reputation". They also recorded a song titled "Nobody Cares," written by Kaylan and his girlfriend Nita Garfield who helped discover The Chymes. However, no copies of the song remain. The girls' brief popularity won them local television appearances. Their record reached #28 on the top 40. Notable information When the sisters first began recording, Stephanie was 16, Irisse was 15, and Candice was 13. The Chattahoochee River forms the southern half of the Alabama and Georgia border, as well as a portion of the Florida - Georgia border. Howard Kaylan
Howard Kaylan (born Howard Lawrence Kaplan, June 22, 1947) is an American musician and songwriter, best known as a founding member and lead singer of the 1960s rock band The Turtles, and, along with bandmate and friend Mark Volman, a member of the 1970s rock duo Flo & Eddie, where he used the pseudonym Eddie. Moreover, he also was a member of Frank Zappa's band, The Mothers of Invention. Early years Kaylan was born in the Bronx to a Jewish family and grew up in Utica, New York, and Westchester, a neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. He studied choral music and clarinet, and won a Bank of America Fine Arts Award at age 16. He graduated early (as valedictorian) from Westchester High School, and briefly attended University of California, Los Angeles on a scholarship. Strawberry Alarm Clock is a psychedelic rock band formed in 1967 with origins in Glendale, California, a city about ten miles north of downtown Los Angeles. Mamas And The Papas
The Mamas & the Papas were a folk rock vocal group formed in Los Angeles, California, which recorded and performed from 1965 to 1968. The group was a defining force in the music scene of the counterculture of the 1960s. The group consisted of Americans John Phillips, Cass Elliot, and Michelle Phillips and Canadian Denny Doherty. Their sound was based on vocal harmonies arranged by John Phillips, the songwriter, musician, and leader of the group, who adapted folk to the new beat style of the early 1960s. The Mamas & the Papas released five studio albums and 17 singles over four years, six of which made the '' Billboard'' top 10, and have sold close to 40 million records worldwide. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 for its contributions to the music industry.
