The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) ( sv, Jesu Kristi Kyrka av Sista Dagars Heliga), headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, has been in Sweden since 1850. History The Book of Mormon was translated into Swedish in 1878. As with many other Scandinavian converts, Swedish LDS were encouraged to emigrate to the US and build up "Zion" there; these included the ancestors of a previous President of the Church (LDS Church), church president, Thomas S. Monson, whose grandfather, Nels Monson (born Torhamn), emigrated at the age of 16. This depleted local numbers for a number of decades, until in the late twentieth century, this policy was discontinued, and a Temple (LDS Church), temple built within the country itself. As of 2021, the LDS Church counted its number of members in Sweden to be just above 9,528, divided into 5 regional units with a total of 40 congregations. Stockholm Sweden Temple
The Stockholm Sweden Temple ( sv, Templet i Stockholm) is the 34th operating temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The temple sits on a lot with six spires rising above the pines in the nearby forest. A cobblestone path leads to its doors. The Stockholm Sweden Temple has a total of , four ordinance rooms, and three sealing rooms. The temple serves Latter-day Saints from the countries of Sweden, Norway, and Latvia. The area surrounding the temple is known for its Iron Age burial grounds, including Jordbro Grave Field. The temple itself was built on a part of the ancient Åby Grave Field (''Åbygravfältet''). Religion in Sweden has, over the years, become increasingly diverse. Christianity was the religion of virtually all of the Swedish population from the 12th to the early 20th century, but it has rapidly declined throughout the late 20th and early 21st century. Christianity came to Sweden as early as the 9th century mainly as a result of an expansion in trade. The ancient Nordic religions were slowly replaced. Several centuries later all monarchs were Christian and Christianity became the established official religion. Mission President
Mission president is a priesthood leadership position in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). A mission president presides over a geographic area known as a mission and the missionaries serving in the mission. Depending on the particular mission, a mission president may also be the presiding priesthood leader of some or all Latter-day Saints within the geographic boundaries of the mission. Mission presidents are ordained high priests of the church. FAIR (Faithful Answers, Informed Response), formerly known as FairMormon and the Foundation for Apologetic Information & Research (FAIR), is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that specializes in Mormon apologetics and responds to criticism of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church).
