''The Chosen'' ( es, El elegido, link=no) is a 2016 Spanish-Mexican thriller drama film written and directed by Antonio Chavarrías. The film stars Hannah Murray, Alfonso Herrera, Julian Sands and Henry Goodman. The movie was filmed in Coyoacán, Mexico and Barcelona, Spain, and its release was scheduled for the first part of 2016. The film is based on the murder of Leon Trotsky in 1940. Antonio Chavarrías
Antonio Chavarrías (Hospitalet de Llobregat, Barcelona, 1956) is a Spanish filmmaker, screenwriter and film producer. Some of his most recognised films are ''Childish Games'' (2012), showed at the 2012 Berlinale (2012), ''Celia's Lives'' (2006), exhibited at the San Sebastián International Film Festival, and '' You'll Be Back'' (2002), which earned him a nomination for the Goya Awards for the Best Adapted Screenplay in 2002. Chavarrías has produced several films some of which have been exhibited and received award nominations at world-renowned festivals such as the Cannes Film Festival, the Rotterdam Film Festival, the Sundance Film Festival, and the Berlinale. Emilio Echevarría
Emilio Antonio Echevarría Noriega (born 3 July 1944) is a Mexican actor. Career Echevarría began his acting career in 1978 as a member of the Constitution of Art and Society. He appeared in ''Amores Perros'' as the hitman and ex- guerrilla nicknamed "El Chivo" (The Goat), and '' Y tu mamá también'', which also co-starred Gael García Bernal. Robert Sheldon Harte
Robert Sheldon Harte (1915 – May 24, 1940) was an American Communist who worked as one of Leon Trotsky’s assistants and bodyguards in Coyoacán, Mexico. During the Stalinist attack against Trotsky’s household on May 24, 1940, Harte was abducted and later murdered by the Stalinist agents. Harte was 25 years old when he offered his services as a guard to the Trotsky household. He replaced the American Trotskyist, Alexander Buchman. He was described as popular and that although not an intellectual, he carried out any tasks without complaints. Murder The abduction and murder of Harte was carried out by David Alfaro Siqueiros. Trotsky had fled to Mexico as a result of several attempted assassination and kidnapping attempts by Soviet and Stalinist agents. Javier Godino (born March 11, 1978 in Madrid) is a Spanish actor. Biography Godino began his studies at Juan Carlos Corazza's School of Interpretation. Luis Rosales Camacho (31 May 1910 – 24 October 1992) was a Spanish poet and essay writer member of the Generation of '36. He was born in Granada (Spain). He became a member of the Hispanic Society of America and the Royal Spanish Academy in 1962. Rosales obtained the Miguel de Cervantes Prize in 1982 for his literary work. Caridad Mercader
Eustacia María Caridad del Río Hernández (29 March 1892 – 1975), better known as Caridad del Río, Caridad Mercader or Caritat Mercader, was a Cuban communist militant and an agent of the Soviet NKVD. She is also known for being the mother of Ramón Mercader, the assassin of Leon Trotsky, and for having personally participated in the operation.
