The Child (Inside)
"The Child (Inside)" is a song by South African trio Qkumba Zoo, released in August 1995 as their first single from the international debut album, ''Wake Up and Dream'' (1996). The song shot straight to the top of the charts in South Africa, earning them the Best New Band award at the 1996 South African Music Awards. Same year, it was a hit in the US, reaching number 69 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 as well as peaking at number-one on the ''Billboard'' Hot Dance Club Songs chart. The trio was the first South African group to top the Hot 100 in over 17 years. The track also peaked at number 34 on the ''Radio & Records'' contemporary hit radio chart on October 18, 1996. A music video was also produced to promote the single. The 1996 release of "The Child (Inside)" featured several mixes by DJ Junior Vasquez, that became the standard for the song in American clubs. Qkumba Zoo is a South African dance music duo from Johannesburg, South Africa, consisting of vocalist Levannah and musician/producer Owl. The band was originally formed by Owl and Levannah as a duo called Ocean Road. In 1996 the band was a trio and consisted of Owl, Levannah, and dancer/sculptor Tziki. The band's 1996 song " The Child (Inside)" was a hit in the United States, reaching number 69 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. ''BIG'' Qkumba Zoo's first release was in 1995 titled ''BIG'', and it was released in South Africa on Gresham Records. Hi-NRG (pronounced "high energy") is a genre of uptempo disco or electronic dance music (EDM) that originated in the United States during the late 1970s and early 1980s. As a music genre, typified by fast tempo, staccato hi-hat rhythms (and the four-on-the-floor pattern), reverberated "intense" vocals and "pulsating" octave basslines, it was particularly influential on the disco scene. The Zulu Kingdom (, ), sometimes referred to as the Zulu Empire or the Kingdom of Zululand, was a monarchy in Southern Africa. Johnny Clegg
Jonathan Paul Clegg, (7 June 195316 July 2019) was a South African musician, singer-songwriter, dancer, anthropologist and anti-apartheid activist, some of whose work was in musicology focused on the music of indigenous South African peoples. His band Juluka began as a duo with Sipho Mchunu, and was the first group in the South African apartheid-era with a white man and a black man. The pair performed and recorded, later with an expanded lineup. In 1986 Clegg founded the band Savuka, and also recorded as a solo act, occasionally reuniting with his earlier band partners. Clout was, originally, an all-female South African rock music, rock musical ensemble, group formed in Johannesburg in 1977, best known for their hit single, "Substitute (The Righteous Brothers song), Substitute". Roberto Concina (3 November 1969 – 9 May 2017), known professionally as Robert Miles, was an Italian record producer, composer, musician and DJ.
