The Cherry Boys
The Cherry Boys were an English new wave band from Liverpool, England. The Cherry Boys formed in 1980. They are most notable for the single "Kardomah Cafe", which missed the UK Singles Chart, but was a top 10 hit in Spain. Career The band consisted of John Byrne (aka John Cherry) on vocals and guitar, James Hughes on vocals and keyboards, Keith Gunson on vocals and bass, and Howie Minns on drums. Icicle Works drummer Chris Sharrock was part of the band early on, and appeared on their first single "Man to Man." The Cherry Boys achieved a significant local following. They won the BBC Radio Merseyside award for Best Local Band in 1982. In the same year they also won best band (and individual musician awards) in the local popular magazine, ''The End''. New Wave (music)
New wave is a loosely defined music genre that encompasses pop-oriented styles from the late 1970s and the 1980s. It was originally used as a catch-all for the various styles of music that emerged after punk rock, including punk itself. Later, critical consensus favored "new wave" as an umbrella term involving many popular music styles of the era, including power pop, synth-pop, ska revival, and more specific forms of punk rock that were less abrasive. There She Goes (The La's Song)
"There She Goes" is a song by English rock band the La's, written by the band's frontman, Lee Mavers. The song reached number 13 on the UK Singles Chart when it was re-issued in 1990. In May 2007, ''NME'' magazine placed the song at number 45 in its list of the 50 Greatest Indie Anthems Ever. Predating Britpop by four years, the band's self-titled album was named one of the 40 greatest one-album wonders by ''Rolling Stone'', with the magazine stating, "Whether about heroin or just unrequited love, the La's single 'There She Goes' off their self-titled debut has endured as a founding piece of Britpop's foundation." ''Last Shop Standing: Whatever Happened to Record Shops?'' is a 2009 book by Graham Jones. It was translated into Italian as ''The 33rd Turn'' by publisher Arcana. Background Book Jones is a record sales representative for 25 to 30 years at a small music distributor, Proper Music, in the United Kingdom. Beginning at his job, Jones counted 2,200 independent record shops across the country but by 2009 there were only 269. In a conversation with his "Auntie", after asking "How are things in the land of record shops?", Jones said his aunt had asked if record shops were going the way of candlestick makers, coin shops, and stamp shops. This talk inspired Jones to write his book ''Last Shop Standing''. For writing, he toured the country and interviewed staff at 50 record shops. Oasis (band)
Oasis were an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1991. Originally known as the Rain, the group initially consisted of Liam Gallagher (lead vocals, tambourine), Paul Arthurs (guitar), Paul McGuigan (bass guitar) and Tony McCarroll (drums). The La's
The La's were an English rock band from Liverpool, originally active from 1983 until 1992. Fronted by singer, songwriter and guitarist Lee Mavers, the group are best known for their hit single " There She Goes".
