''The Celluloid Heroes'' is a four-part Australian documentary series about the history of the cinema of Australia. The music score was composed by one of Australian composer Nigel Westlake. The original soundtrack recording was performed by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and produced for CD by Philip Powers for 1M1 Records Philip Powers (born 1963) is a record producer - and author - specialising in film scores and classical music. His recordings have been nominated for five ARIA Awards. Donald Crombie
Donald Charles Crombie (born 5 July 1942) is an Australian film and television director and screenwriter. Born in Brisbane, Crombie was educated at the Anglican Church Grammar School and studied at the National Institute of Dramatic Art. Crombie started work at the Commonwealth Film Unit in 1963. He has directed feature films, telemovies, mini-series, drama series, documentaries and commercials, and has also written film and television scripts. Crombie has been a board member of the AWG, ASDACS and ASDA and the president of ASDA for over 5 years. He is the father of costume and production designer Fiona Crombie. Anthony Buckley AO (born 27 July 1937) is an Australian film editor and producer. Career On leaving school, Buckley went to work for Cinesound Productions as a projectionist and assistant editor. He worked in Canada and Britain before returning to Australia in 1965. Nigel Westlake
Nigel Westlake is an Australian composer, musician and conductor. As a composer for the screen, his film credits include the feature films ''Ali's Wedding'', '' Paper Planes'', ''Miss Potter'', ''Babe'', '' Babe: Pig in the City'', '' Children of the Revolution'' and '' The Nugget''. Biography Westlake was born in Perth, Western Australia, the son of clarinettist Donald Westlake. Westlake studied the clarinet with his father, Donald (principal clarinettist, Sydney Conservatorium of Music 1961-1979) and subsequently left school early to pursue a performance career in music. By the age of 17, Westlake was touring Australia and the world, performing as a freelance clarinetist, bass clarinetist and saxophonist with ballet companies, a circus troupe, chamber music ensembles, fusion bands and orchestras. Film Australia
Film Australia was a company established by the Government of Australia to produce films about Australia in 1973. Its predecessors were the Cinema and Photographic Branch (1913–38), the Australian National Film Board (1939–1955, under different departments), and the Commonwealth Film Unit (1956–72). Film Australia became Film Australia Limited in 1988 and was consolidated into Screen Australia in 2008. Administration of the Film Australia Collection was transferred from Screen Australia to the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia on 1 July 2011. Melbourne Symphony Orchestra
The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO) is an Australian orchestra based in Melbourne. The MSO is resident at Hamer Hall. The MSO has its own choir, the MSO Chorus, following integration with the Melbourne Chorale in 2008. The MSO relies on funding by the Victorian State Government and the Federal government and support from private corporations and donors. It is supported by Symphony Services International. Sophie Galaise joined the MSO as its first female Managing Director in 2016. Its current Chairman is David Li. History The founder of the Albert Street Conservatorium Orchestra was Alberto Zelman.
