The Carnival Night
''Carnival Night'' (russian: Карнавальная ночь, Karnavalnaya noch) is a 1956 Soviet musical film. It is Eldar Ryazanov's first big-screen film, Lyudmila Gurchenko's first role and also one of the most famous films starring popular comedian Igor Ilyinsky. Produced during the Khrushchev Thaw, the film became the Soviet box office leader of 1956 with a total of 48.64 million tickets sold. Today it remains a highly popular New Year's Eve classic in Russia and the post-Soviet space. Plot It is New Year's Eve and the employees of a House of Culture are ready with their annual New Year's entertainment program. Jazz Band
A jazz band (jazz ensemble or jazz combo) is a musical ensemble that plays jazz music. Jazz bands vary in the quantity of its members and the style of jazz that they play but it is common to find a jazz band made up of a rhythm section and a horn section. The size of a jazz band is closely related to the style of jazz they play as well as the type of venues in which they play. Smaller jazz bands, also known as ''combos'', are common in night clubs and other small venues and will be made up of three to seven musicians; whereas big bands are found in dance halls and other larger venues. Jazz bands can vary in size from a big band, to a smaller trio or quartet. Some bands use vocalists, while others are purely instrumental groups. RIA Novosti (russian: РИА Новости), sometimes referred to as RIAN () or RIA (russian: РИА, label=none) is a Russian state-owned domestic news agency. Eddie Rosner
Adolph Ignatievich Rosner, known professionally as Ady Rosner and Eddie Rosner (26 May 1910 – 8 August 1976) was a Polish and Soviet jazz trumpeter sometimes called "The White Louis Armstrong" or "Polish Louis Armstrong". He was a prisoner in the Gulag when Joseph Stalin was General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. Biography Early years Rosner was born into a Jewish family in Berlin. When he was six years old, he attended Stern Conservatory. He studied classical music but developed a fondness for jazz. At 20, he left the conservatory as a violinist to enter the High School of Music on the Kantstrasse near the Opera. Anatoly Lepin
Anatoly Yakovlevich Lepin (; ; , in Moscow – 24 October 1984, in Moscow) was a Soviet composer of Latvian origin. He was born in 1907 into the family of Jēkabs Liepiņš, a Latvian instrument tuner, who had recently moved to Moscow. He graduated from the Moscow Conservatory in 1936, having studied composition with A. N. Aleksandrov, and went on to teach in Tashkent from 1936 to 1938 then in Kharkiv from 1938 to 1939. He lived in Riga from 1945 to 1950, and during that period composed the Anthem of the Latvian SSR. Lepin was married to Milica Svarenieks, a ballerina of Latvian origin, with whom he had a son, Leonid (b. 1946), and a daughter – Tatyana (b. 1953). Sergey Nikolayevich Filippov (russian: Сергей Николаевич Филиппов, 24 June 1912— 19 April 1990) was a Soviet and Russian film and stage actor and comedian, best known for his parts in films ''Adventures of Korzinkina'' (1941), ''The Night Patrol'' (1957) and the adaptation of Ilf and Petrov's classic ''The Twelve Chairs'' (1971), which granted him the People's Artist of the RSFSR title in 1974. Georgi Kulikov (actor)
Georgi Ivanovich Kulikov (russian: Георгий Иванович Куликов; 9 June 1924 — 24 December 1995) was a Russian actor. He appeared in more than forty films from 1955 to 1990. As a young man in the summer of 1941, Kulikov found work as a welder and a tractor driver, while managing to assemble a theatrical education, studying with fellow young actor Nikolai Rybnikov, eventually graduating from the Mikhail Shchepkin Higher Theatre School in 1948. His career encompassed theater, films, radio, and teaching drama from 1971 to 1978. Kulikov was named a Merited Artist of the Russian Federation in April 1967, and after his death on Christmas Eve, 1995, was buried in Moscow's Troyekurovskoye Cemetery. Tamara Nosova
Tamara Nosova (russian: Тамара Макаровна Носова; 21 November 1927 – 25 March 2007) was a Soviet and Russian actress, who was awarded the title of People's Artist of Russia in 1992. She appeared in 27 films between 1948 and 1999. She was married to writer Vitali Gubarev. Biography Nosova was born in Moscow, on 21 November 1927. In 1950, she graduated from the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography in 1950. She was one of the most popular comedians of the 1950s and 1960s. Since the 1970s, she has rarely played in films. Nosova died on 25 March 2007. The urn with her ashes was buried at the Vagankovo Cemetery's columbarium.
