The Butterfly Affair
''Popsy Pop'' (released in Italy as ''Fuori il Maloppo'' and internationally as ''The Butterfly Affair'') is a 1971 Italian crime film produced by Sofracima. It stars Claudia Cardinale, Stanley Baker and Henri Charrière, the real-life '' Papillon''. Plot The Venezuelan hamlet Vista Alegra lives from recuperating diamonds from the muddy soil. Inspector Silva, a former private eye, has been put there as surveyor by the international diamond company to whom the locals sell their finds. One day, French singer Popsy Pop travelling with a giant edition of ''Alice in Wonderland'' and a doll called "Alice", arrives on the monthly boat accompanied by a small group of gangsters led by the elderly Marcou, who, with Popsy's aid, plan to steal the diamonds worth 2 million dollars, using the celebrations on the Venezuelan Independence day as cover. Jean Herman
Jean Vautrin (17 May 1933 – 16 June 2015), real name Jean Herman, was a French writer, filmmaker and film critic. Life and career After studying literature at Auxerre, he took first place in the Id'HEC competition. He studied French literature at the University of Bombay; he became assistant director to Roberto Rossellini. Back in France, he produced five feature films. He became famous among the general public in 1989, winning the Prix Goncourt for his novel ''Un grand pas vers le bon Dieu''. His novel ‘Le Cri du Peuple’ was adapted as a graphic novel by Jacques Tardi. Leroy Haynes (1914–1986) was an expat American restaurateur and actor who resided in Paris, France. As an actor, he appeared in '' The Butterfly Affair'', ''Bons Baisers de Hong Kong'', and ''Ace High''. His restaurant, Chez Haynes was a well known and iconic restaurant which would be visited by well known actors and entertainers. Background Leroy "Roughouse" Haynes was born Leroy Howard Milton Haynes in Clinton, Kentucky on January 7, 1914 to parents Robert Haynes and M.C. Curine Lena. A student of the arts, he was a Morehouse graduate who got his Roughouse name from his football days. While in the army he came to Europe. While stationed in Germany, he would come to Paris. In 1949, he married Gabrielle Lecarbonnier, a young French woman. Together they opened "Gabby and Haynes", and later Chez Haynes. Later he acted in movies of the gangster genre.
