The Bunch
The Bunch were a British folk rock band, which came together in 1971 to record their one off album, ''Rock On (The Bunch album), Rock On''. Formation The Bunch was put together by Trevor Lucas in late 1971, close to a year after his former band, Fotheringay, had disbanded. He got on board three ex Fotheringay members, Pat Donaldson, Gerry Conway (musician), Gerry Conway, and his girlfriend Sandy Denny. Denny had just released her debut solo album, ''The North Star Grassman and the Ravens''. Ian Whiteman, who had worked with Denny, and Tony Cox were brought in for piano duties. Richard Thompson (musician), Richard Thompson joined on guitar, his girlfriend and friend of Denny's, Linda Thompson (singer), Linda Peters, joined on vocals. Folk Rock
Folk rock is a hybrid music genre that combines the elements of folk and rock music, which arose in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom in the mid-1960s. In the U.S., folk rock emerged from the folk music revival. Performers such as Bob Dylan and the Byrds—several of whose members had earlier played in folk ensembles—attempted to blend the sounds of rock with their pre-existing folk repertoire, adopting the use of electric instrumentation and drums in a way previously discouraged in the U.S. folk community. Dave Mattacks
David James Mattacks (born 13 March 1948) is an English rock and folk drummer. Best known for his work with Fairport Convention, Mattacks has also worked both as a session musician and as a performing artist. Apart from playing the drums, he is also a versed keyboard player and occasionally played the bass guitar on studio recordings. He began as a trainee piano-tuner before taking up the drums. He played with several jazz bands before joining the British folk rock band Fairport Convention in August 1969, with whom he worked on and off until 1997. In 1998, he moved to Marblehead, Massachusetts, United States, where he is a sought-after studio musician, record producer, and member of the band Super Genius, while still touring regularly with various acts in the United Kingdom, Europe and Australia. When Will I Be Loved (song)
"When Will I Be Loved" is a popular song written by Phil Everly of the Everly Brothers, who had a US top-ten hit with it in 1960. Linda Ronstadt covered the song in 1975, and her version was an even bigger hit in the US, peaking at No. 2. Vince Gill also covered it in 1994 on the soundtrack of the film ''8 Seconds''. The Everly Brothers version Background The Everly Brothers scored a number 8 hit single with "When Will I Be Loved" in the summer of 1960 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart. The track had been recorded in 1960 while the duo were contracted to Cadence Records; they moved to Warner Brothers and rerecorded it in a more mainstream pop/rock style. Henry The Human Fly
''Henry the Human Fly'' is the debut solo album by former Fairport Convention guitarist Richard Thompson. It was released on the Island label in the U.K. and the Reprise label in the U.S.A. in April 1972. The album was reissued by Rykodisc in 1991. Thompson has stated that at one point this was the worst-selling album in the Warner Bros. catalog. Production Although Thompson's first solo album, two other ex-Fairport Convention members (Sandy Denny and Ashley Hutchings) make appearances. Linda Peters, who married Thompson shortly after the album was released, sings backup on ''Henry the Human Fly''. ''Sandy'' is the second solo album by British folk rock musician Sandy Denny. Work on the album began just a fortnight after her UK tour promoting her debut solo album, ''The North Star Grassman and the Ravens'', ended in early November 1971 and continued through to May 1972.The album was released in September 1972. The Crickets
The Crickets were an American rock and roll band from Lubbock, Texas, formed by singer-songwriter Buddy Holly in January 1957. Their first hit record, "That'll Be the Day", released in May 1957, peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100, ''Billboard'' Top 100 chart on September 16, 1957. ''The North Star Grassman and the Ravens'' is a 1971 album by English folk rock singer-songwriter Sandy Denny. Built mostly around her own compositions, ''The North Star Grassman and the Ravens'' is distinguished by its elusive lyrics and unexpected harmonies. Chronology Denny became a solo artist when her previous group Fotheringay dissolved. Half way through recording the group's second album, producer Joe Boyd left to take up a job with Warner Bros. in California, leaving the album unfinished. ''Rock On'' is a 1972 one-off album of oldies covers by the Bunch, a group of English folk rock singers and musicians. The Bunch was put together by Trevor Lucas in late 1971 to record their one and only album, ''Rock On''. This album consisted of covers of the band’s favourite songs by Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, and The Everly Brothers, amongst others. Among the Bunch were former and future members of Fairport Convention and others, including Sandy Denny, Richard Thompson, Linda Thompson (credited as Linda Peters), Pat Donaldson, Ashley Hutchings, Gerry Conway, and Dave Mattacks. Fledg'ling Records reissued the album on compact disc in 2003, adding four bonus tracks. The album (including the bonus tracks) was re-issued again by Talking Elephant Records in 2013.
