Zoltán Fábri
Zoltán Fábri (15 October 1917 – 23 August 1994) was a Hungarian film director and screenwriter. His films '' The Boys of Paul Street'' (1969) and ''Hungarians'' (1978) were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. His 1965 film ''Twenty Hours'' shared the Grand Prix with ''War and Peace'' at the 4th Moscow International Film Festival. His 1969 film ''The Toth Family'' was entered into the 7th Moscow International Film Festival. His 1975 film '' 141 Minutes from the Unfinished Sentence'' was entered into the 9th Moscow International Film Festival, where he won a Special Prize for Directing. Life and career Fábri wanted to become an artist from an early age on. He studied painting and graduated at the Hungarian College of Fine Arts. Ferenc Bessenyei
Ferenc Bessenyei (10 February 1919 – 27 December 2004) was a Hungarian actor and singer. He began his career in the choir at National Theatre of Szeged in 1940 and became one of Hungary's most respected stage performers. As singer he appeared in ''My Fair Lady'' (as Higgins), ''Fiddler on the Roof'' (as milkman Tevje) and ''Zorba the Greek'' (as Zorba). He was a tall man with a deep, powerful voice. He was elected to the Revolutionary Council of the Hungarian Intelligentsia in the 1956 revolt and was not allowed to perform for two years. He was awarded the "Actor of Nation" in 2000. He appeared in 75 films between 1960 and 2001. His second wife was Hédi Váradi actress. 1961 Cannes Film Festival
The 14th Cannes Film Festival was held from 3 to 18 May 1961. The Palme d'Or went to the ''Une aussi longue absence'', directed by Henri Colpi and ''Viridiana'', directed by Luis Buñuel. The festival opened with ''Che gioia vivere'', directed by René Clément. The festival also screened Shirley Clarke's debut film '' The Connection'' due to the efforts of the French Syndicate of Cinema Critics. The success of the film caused the festival to create International Critics' Week the following year. György Györffy
György Györffy (26 September 1917 – 19 December 2000) was a Hungarian historian, and member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences ( hu, MTA). Biography Györffy was born in Szucság (Suceagu, today part of Baciu, Romania), Hungary the son of ethnographer István Györffy and Anna Papp. He finished his secondary schooling in the St. István Grammar School in 1935. Between 1935 and 1939 he studied at the Peter Pázmány University (now Eötvös Loránd University) under the historian Sándor Domanovszky, Elemér Mályusz, and the linguist and turkologist Gyula Németh. Towards the end of this time he took a sabbatical around the Baltic Sea, Finland and Lapland. When he received the news of the start of World War II he returned to Hungary, arriving back in October 1939. In June 1940, he was awarded a Doctorate in Hungarian Cultural History with his thesis ("Pechenegs and Hungarians").
