''The Broken Strings Tour'' is the first live album from Australian alternative/rock group, Birds of Tokyo. The album was released as a double CD/DVD on 5 February 2010 and it debuted and peaked at number 11 on the Australian ARIA Charts. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2010, the DVD was nominated for Best Music DVD but lost to ''Sound Relief'' by Various Artists. Background and Recording In 2009 Birds of Tokyo came up with an idea to show Australian audiences a very different and unexpected side to the band. They stripped their music back to the barest framework then rebuilt it with acoustic based sounds and delicate orchestration. Birds Of Tokyo
Birds of Tokyo are an Australian alternative rock band from Perth, Western Australia. Their debut album, ''Day One,'' gained them domestic success, reaching number three on the AIR Independent Album charts and spending a total of 36 consecutive weeks in the top ten. In 2008, the band released '' Universes'', which made it to number three on the Australian ARIA Albums Chart. 2010 saw the band's self-titled third studio release ''Birds of Tokyo'' spend over eight months on the Australian top 20, peaking at number two on the ARIA Albums Chart. ''Universes'' is the second album from Birds of Tokyo, independently released on 5 July 2008, through MGM Distribution. The album was recorded at Loop Studios in West Perth, Wing Command in Perth, Western Australia and in "a big beautiful wooden house by the sea" at Injidup (Yallingup, Western Australia). Mixing for the album took place in North Hollywood, California by Tim Palmer at Ameraycan Studios. During this mixing process the band filmed the music videos for "Broken Bones" and " Silhouettic" in Lancaster, California. These two music videos join together to form one complete story. However, the video for "Silhouettic", which features the second part of the story, was released first on the band's official website and their official Myspace page. "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" is a song written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong for Motown Records in 1966. The first recording of the song to be released was produced by Whitfield for Gladys Knight & the Pips and released as a single in September 1967.
