The Brian May Band
The Brian May Band was an English-American rock band formed by Queen guitarist Brian May for touring in promotion of his studio albums. History The rhythm section for the band were Cozy Powell and Neil Murray, who had previously worked together in Black Sabbath and Whitesnake. Spike Edney, who was the tour keyboardist for Queen between 1984 and 1986 took the keyboard spot. The band was originally formed in October 1991 for May's performance at '' Guitar Legends'' guitar festival in Seville, Spain. The band soon went on a tour of the United States, Europe and Japan. The tour ended in December 1993, when May returned to the studio with fellow Queen bandmates Roger Taylor and John Deacon for Queen's final studio album, ''Made In Heaven''. Roger Meddows-Taylor
Roger Meddows Taylor (born 26 July 1949) is an English musician, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and the drummer for the rock band Queen. As a drummer, Taylor was recognised early in his career for his unique sound''Rolling Stone'' – Issue 149 – 12 June 1973 and was voted the eighth-greatest drummer in classic rock music history in a listener poll conducted by Planet Rock in 2005. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001 as a member of Queen. As a songwriter, Taylor composed at least one track on every Queen album, and often sang lead vocals on his own compositions. He wrote or co-wrote three UK number ones ("These Are the Days of Our Lives", "Innuendo" and "Under Pressure") and wrote a further five major hits ("Radio Ga Ga", " A Kind of Magic", "Heaven for Everyone", " Breakthru", and "The Invisible Man"). Christopher Hamlet Thompson (born 9 March 1948) is an English singer and guitarist known both for his work with Manfred Mann's Earth Band, specifically for his lead vocal on the classic hit "Blinded By the Light" and for his solo accomplishments. Biography Thompson was born in Ashford, Kent, England, but raised in New Zealand. His early musical experiences were whilst still at school with the band The Paragons that played at weekly church youth club dances. Later, as his talent became clear, the band was reformed as Dynasty with other musicians and achieved much local success on the New Zealand music scene. Thompson's last band in New Zealand was Mandrake, formed with university friends who played the Friday and Saturday night dances in and around Hamilton City. He went to Australia before returning to England in 1973 to pursue a musical career, eventually joining Manfred Mann's Earth Band in 1976. ''Live at the Brixton Academy'' is a recording of The Brian May Band's first show in London on June 15, 1993. The album was released on CD, Cassette, LP and VHS in 1994, and remains the group's only release as a collective. Overview The album is an almost complete and unedited version of the concert. Their performance of John Lennon's " God (The Dream Is Over)" was not included on the album due to copyright issues. Keyboard player Spike Edney had to play a second solo (neither are on the CD, the first being on the video) after May had technical problems before playing "Last Horizon". ''Another World'' is the second solo album by Queen guitarist Brian May, released on 1 June 1998 by Parlophone Records in the UK, and on 15 September 1998 by Hollywood Records in the US. May dedicated it to his mother. The song "Business" was the theme song of the first season of the comedy-drama series ''Frank Stubbs Promotes'', and the track "On My Way Up" was used for its second season. Overview Recorded at his home studio after the completion of the last Queen album, ''Made in Heaven'', the album was released in the UK on 1 June 1998 and on 15 September of that year in the US. The album itself started as a cover album. The "Heroes" concept was to record May's favourite tracks from his favourite artists, but the idea soon mutated into a full album.
