The Brenken Case
''The Brenken Case'' (German: ''Der Fall Brenken'') is a 1934 German comedy crime film directed by Carl Lamac and starring Walter Steinbeck, Hans Brausewetter and Rudolf Klein-Rogge.Noack p.73 The film's sets were designed by the art directors Gustav A. Knauer and Alexander Mügge. Synopsis An attack on the industrialist owner of the Brenken factory draws newspaper headlines. It later transpires that he has organised it himself in order to try to deter rivals from buying his company's shares on the stock exchange. Adele Sandrock (; born Adele Feldern-Förster; 19 August 1863 – 30 August 1937) was a German-Dutch actress. After a successful theatrical career, she became one of the first German movie stars. Early life Sandrock was born in Rotterdam, Netherlands, the daughter of the German merchant Eduard Sandrock (1834–1897) and his Dutch wife, Johanna Simonetta ten Hagen (1833–1917). With sister Wilhelmine (1861-1948) and brother Christian (1862–1924), she grew up in Rotterdam, and, after her parents' divorce on 15 November 1869, in Berlin. Veit Harlan
Veit Harlan (22 September 1899 – 13 April 1964) was a German film director and actor. Harlan reached the highpoint of his career as a director in the Nazi era; most notably his antisemitic film ''Jud Süß'' (1940) makes him controversial. While viewed critically for his ideologies, a number of critics consider him a capable director on the grounds of such work as his ''Opfergang'' (1944). Life and career Harlan was born in Berlin, the son of the writer Walter Harlan and his wife Adele, nee Boothby. His elder brother Peter was a multi-instrumentalist and musical instrument maker. After studying under Max Reinhardt, he first appeared on the stage in 1915 and, after World War I, worked in the Berlin stage.
