The Book Of Fritz Leiber
''The Book of Fritz Leiber'' is a collection of short stories and articles by American writer Fritz Leiber. It was first published in paperback in January 1974 by DAW Books. It was later gathered together with '' The Second Book of Fritz Leiber'' into the hardcover omnibus collection ''The Book of Fritz Leiber, Volume I & II'' (Gregg Press, 1980). The book consists of ten fantasy, science fiction and horror short stories alternating with nine related articles, together with a foreword by the author. Some pieces were original to the collection. A WikiProject, or Wikiproject, is a Wikimedia movement affinity group for contributors with shared goals. ''Worlds of Tomorrow'' was an American science fiction magazine published from 1963 to 1967, at which point it was merged into '' If''. The first issue appeared in April 1963. The last issue was published in May 1967. The publishers were Barmaray Co, New York City, and then Galaxy Publishing. It briefly resumed publication from Summer 1970 to Spring 1971, producing three issues. The magazine was edited in its first period of publication by Frederik Pohl, who was editor of Galaxy Publishing Co. from 1960-1969, and by Ejler Jakobsson in the second. "To Arkham and the Stars" is a short story by American writer Fritz Leiber, belonging to the Cthulhu Mythos genre of horror fiction. It was written for the 1966 Arkham House anthology ''The Dark Brotherhood and Other Pieces''. Set in H. P. Lovecraft's Arkham and Miskatonic University, it includes characters from and allusions to several Lovecraft stories. Robert M. ''Broadside'' magazine was a small mimeographed publication founded in 1962 by Agnes "Sis" Cunningham and her husband, Gordon Friesen. Hugely influential in the folk-revival, it was often controversial. Issues of what is folk music, what is folk rock, and ''who'' is folk were roundly discussed and debated. At the same time, ''Broadside'' nurtured and promoted important singers of the era. The mimeograph machine used to produce the magazine had been discarded by the American Labor Party. The mixture of hand-drawn musical notation, typewriter text, and the occasional hand-drawn illustration or photocopied news story anticipated a look that would be more common in zines 20 years later. By the end of the 1970s, ''Broadside'' had essentially ceased publication. ''Galaxy Science Fiction'' was an American digest-size science fiction magazine, published in Boston from 1950 to 1980. It was founded by a French-Italian company, World Editions, which was looking to break into the American market. World Editions hired as editor H. L. Gold, who rapidly made ''Galaxy'' the leading science fiction magazine of its time, focusing on stories about social issues rather than technology. Gold published many notable stories during his tenure, including Ray Bradbury's "The Fireman", later expanded as ''Fahrenheit 451''; Robert A. Heinlein's ''The Puppet Masters''; and Alfred Bester's ''The Demolished Man''. In 1952, the magazine was acquired by Robert Guinn, its printer.
