''Upstairs, Downstairs'' is a British television drama series produced by London Weekend Television (LWT) for ITV. It ran for 68 episodes divided into five series on ITV from 1971 to 1975. Set in a large townhouse at 165, Eaton Place in Belgravia in central London, the series depicts the servants—"downstairs"—and their masters, the family—"upstairs"—between the years 1903 and 1930, and shows the slow decline of the British aristocracy. Richard Evelyn Vernon (7 March 1925 – 4 December 1997) was a British actor. He appeared in many feature films and television programmes, often in aristocratic or supercilious roles. Prematurely balding and greying, Vernon settled into playing archetypal middle-aged lords and military types while still in his 30s. Early life and career Archard was born in Fulham, London, where his father Alfred James Aloysius who was born in Marylebone was a jeweller. Anthony Ainley (20 August 1932 – 3 May 2004) was an English actor. He was the fourth actor to portray The Master (Doctor Who), the Master in ''Doctor Who''. Anthony Cecil John Dawes (10 February 1928 – 21 January 2021) was an English character actor, who appeared in a number of roles in film, television and on stage during a career which spanned from 1951 to 2006. Life and career Dawes was born in Felixstowe, Suffolk in February 1928. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in 1951.
