The Bob Crosby Show (radio Program)
''The Bob Crosby Show'' can refer to any of several old-time radio musical variety program in the United States. They were broadcast on CBS, Mutual Broadcasting System, Mutual and NBC, with the first beginning in 1935 and the last ending in 1950. Format The program focused on music, with Crosby as the star and his Bobcats orchestra providing accompaniment. One of its characteristics was featuring "a different up-and-coming female vocalist" each week. Peggy Lee, Kay Starr and Jo Stafford were among those in that group. Radio historian John Dunning (radio historian), John Dunning, in his reference book, ''On the Air: The Encyclopedia of Old-Time Radio'', wrote, "''The Bob Crosby Show'', as such, was a product of the 1940s, but it had its roots in the big band era of the previous decade." Mutual Broadcasting System
The Mutual Broadcasting System (commonly referred to simply as Mutual; sometimes referred to as MBS, Mutual Radio or the Mutual Radio Network) was an American commercial radio network in operation from 1934 to 1999. Johnny Mercer
John Herndon Mercer (November 18, 1909 – June 25, 1976) was an American lyricist, songwriter, and singer, as well as a record label executive who co-founded Capitol Records with music industry businessmen Buddy DeSylva and Glenn E. Wallichs. He is best known as a Tin Pan Alley lyricist, but he also composed music, and was a popular singer who recorded his own songs as well as songs written by others from the mid-1930s through the mid-1950s. Mercer's songs were among the most successful hits of the time, including " Moon River", " Days of Wine and Roses", " Autumn Leaves", and "Hooray for Hollywood". He wrote the lyrics to more than 1,500 songs, including compositions for movies and Broadway shows. He received nineteen Oscar nominations, and won four Best Original Song Oscars. ''Club Fifteen'' is a radio program in the United States that featured popular music. It was broadcast weeknights (except for a two month hiatus each summer) 30 June 1947 – 21 December 1951. A sustaining program is a radio or television program that, despite airing on a commercial broadcast station, does not have commercial sponsorship or advertising. This term, mostly used in the United States, was common in the early days of radio, but has become unfamiliar owing to the nearly universal use of commercial advertising on radio and television. Network and commercial radio Commercial radio stations began broadcasting in the early 1920s, but it would be over a decade before the concept of selling over-the-air advertising would catch on. Roger & Gallet (also Roger et Gallet) is a French perfume company founded by merchant Charles Armand Roger and banker Charles Martial Gallet in 1862. It was owned by the L'Oréal group until its sale to Impala SAS in 2020. Roger & Gallet purchased the Parisian perfumery business founded in 1806 by Jean Marie Joseph Farina, grand-grand-nephew of Giovanni Maria Farina, the creator of Eau de Cologne. Larry Keating
Lawrence Keating (June 13, 1899 – August 26, 1963) was an American actor best known for his roles as Harry Morton on ''The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show'', which he played from 1953 to 1958, and next-door neighbor Roger Addison on ''Mister Ed'', which he played from 1961 until his death in 1963. John Dunning (radio Historian)
John Dunning (born January 9, 1942) is an American writer of non-fiction and detective fiction. He is known for his reference books on old-time radio and his series of mysteries featuring Denver bookseller and ex-policeman Cliff Janeway. Life Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1942, Dunning moved to his father's hometown of Charleston, South Carolina, at the age of three. In 1964 he left his parents' home and moved to Denver, Colorado, where, after a time working as a stable hand at a horse racing track, he got a job at ''The Denver Post''. In 1970 he left the newspaper and took up writing novels, while pursuing a variety of jobs. Partly because of trouble with his publishers, in 1984 he stopped writing and opened a store specializing in second-hand and rare books called the Old Algonquin Bookstore.
