The Blue God
''The Blue God'' is the second studio album by British singer-songwriter Martina Topley-Bird, her first in five years. Released on 12 May 2008, the album had been complete since at least September 2007. Since then, Topley-Bird slowly revealed track titles and posted songs from the album on her official website and her MySpace page. ''The Blue God'' was produced by Danger Mouse. The album was preceded by its first single, "Carnies," on 3 March 2008. "Poison," the second single, was released on 5 May 2008. The single's B-side, "Soldier Boy", is a collaboration with Gorillaz & Roots Manuva which interpolates certain elements of the Gorillaz' demo "Snakes & Ladders". The third single from the album, "Baby Blue," was released as a digital download on 7 September 2008. Martina Topley-Bird
Martina Gillian Topley-Bird (''née'' Topley; born 7 May 1975) is an English singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who first gained fame as the featured female vocalist on trip hop pioneer Tricky's debut album, ''Maxinquaye'' (1995). She also worked with him on his subsequent albums ''Nearly God'' and ''Pre-Millennium Tension'' (both 1996). In 2003, Topley-Bird released her debut solo album, ''Quixotic'', which was critically praised and earned her a Mercury Prize nomination. This was followed by ''Anything'' (2004), ''The Blue God'' (2008) and ''Some Place Simple'' (2010). She has also collaborated with Gorillaz, appearing on their album ''Demon Days'' (2005), as well as with Mark Lanegan, Diplo and Massive Attack on ''Heligoland'' (2010), which she followed by a world tour with the group. ''Pitchfork'' (formerly ''Pitchfork Media'') is an American online music publication (currently owned by Condé Nast) that was launched in 1995 by writer Ryan Schreiber as an independent music blog. Schreiber started Pitchfork while working at a record store in suburban Minneapolis, and the website earned a reputation for its extensive coverage of indie rock music. The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data. Rodney Hylton Smith, better known by his stage name Roots Manuva (born 9 September 1972), is a British rapper and producer. Since his debut in 1994, he has produced numerous albums and singles on the label Big Dada, achieving commercial success with albums ''Run Come Save Me'' and ''Slime & Reason''. He has been described as "one of the most influential artists in British music history." His most recent studio album, '' Bleeds'', was released in October 2015. Biography Smith grew up around Stockwell, London, England. His parents were from a small village in Jamaica where his father was a preacher and tailor. Gorillaz
Gorillaz are an English virtual band formed in 1998 by musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett, from London.
