''The Bleeding Tree'' is a play by Australian writer Angus Cerini. ''The Bleeding Tree'' received the Griffin Award in 2014. The following year the Griffin Theatre Company in Sydney premiered the play, directed by Lee Lewis and featuring Paula Arundell, Airlie Dodds and Shari Sebbens. Lee Lewis
Lee Lewis is an Australian theatre director. Early life and education Lewis trained as an actor at Columbia University in New York. Returning to Australia, she completed a Masters of Directing at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in 2005. Career In In 2006 she directed a play by New Zealand writer Matthew J. Saville about the Boer War entitled ''Kikia te Poa'', which was performed at the Old Fitzroy Theatre in Sydney. She was appointed artistic director of Sydney's Griffin Theatre Company in 2012. Lewis was appointed artistic director of the Queensland Theatre Company in 2019, succeeding Sam Strong (director), Sam Strong who was her predecessor at Griffin as well. Paula Arundell is an Australian actress and singer. Early life Arundell studied at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), in Sydney. She graduated in 1995, with a degree in Performing Arts (Acting). Career Arundell has appeared on television in '' Water Rats'', ''Murder Call'', ''Farscape'', '' All Saints'', ''Home and Away'', '' Out of the Blue'' and ''Love My Way'' among others. Shari Sebbens
Shari Sebbens is an Aboriginal Australian actress and stage director, known for her debut film role in '' The Sapphires'' (2012), as well as many stage and television performances. After a two-year stint as resident director of the Sydney Theatre Company (STC), in 2023 she will be directing productions by STC and Griffin in Sydney, as well as Melbourne Theatre Company and Malthouse Theatre in Melbourne. Sydney Theatre Company (STC) is an Australian theatre company based in Sydney, New South Wales. The company performs in The Wharf Theatre at Dawes Point in The Rocks area of Sydney, as well as the Roslyn Packer Theatre (formerly Sydney Theatre) and the Sydney Opera House Drama Theatre. History Sydney Theatre Company was formed in December 1978, following the closure of The Old Tote Theatre Company the month before. The then Premier, Neville Wran, approached Elizabeth Butcher, who had been seconded from the National Institute of Dramatic Art to administer the Old Tote, and asked her to set up a new state theatre company, to perform in the Drama Theatre of the Sydney Opera House. Wharf Theatre
The Wharf Theatre is a theatre in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. This theatre is part of the Sydney Theatre Company and located on Pier 4/5 of the former Sydney port facility in Walsh Bay at Dawes Point. History In 1829, the first jetty in the area of Pier 4/5 was constructed and called ‘Pitman’s Wharf’. In 1919, work on Pier 4/5, was completed by H.D Walsh. In 1979, the Sydney Theatre Company was searching for a home. Elizabeth Butcher, administrator at NIDA, discovered the derelict finger wharves at Walsh Bay and proposed that Pier 4/5 be restored and become STC's place of residence. Her recommendation was accepted by the Premier's department. When the designing architect, Vivian Fraser, began work on the redevelopment of Pier 4/5 one of the major design issues was which end of the finger wharf to put the theatre.
