''The Black Diamond Express'' is a 1927 silent railroad feature film drama directed by Howard Bretherton and starring Monte Blue. It was produced and distributed by Warner Bros. It is not to be confused with several early short actuality styled films under the title ''Black Diamond Express'' for example the famous and still exiting 1896 film of a train arriving in a station. This film is presumed lost. Howard Bretherton
Howard Bretherton (13 February 1890, in Tacoma, Washington – 12 April 1969, in San Diego, California) was an American film director, film editor, and the father of film editor David Bretherton. Career He began his career as a propman and then became a film editor during the early 1920s for MGM. He directed his first film, ''While London Sleeps'', in 1926, and thereafter spent more than three decades working mostly as a film director. Of the roughly 100 pictures he directed, most of them were westerns and action/adventure films. The final film he directed was ''Night Raiders (1952 film), Night Raiders'' in 1952. Afterwards, he occasionally worked as a director in television through 1958. Carroll Nye
Robert Carroll Nye (October 4, 1901 – March 17, 1974) was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 50 films between 1925 and 1944. His most memorable role was Frank Kennedy, Scarlett's second husband, in ''Gone with the Wind''. Biography Nye was born in Akron, Ohio. His mother, Myra Nye, was the club editor of the ''Los Angeles Times''; his father, W. P. Nye, was postmaster in Covina, California. Nye attended Covina, California, schools and the University of California at Los Angeles and later became a reporter and radio editor with the ''Times'' like his mother. Nye performed on stage at the Majestic Theater in Los Angeles from 1922 to 1925. He began working in films in June 1925. At the beginning of his career he had a score of leading man roles in Hollywood opposite such silent screen stars as Anita Page and Corinne Griffith.
