The Black Box (album)
''The Black Box'' is a box set album by Gasolin'. It was released in 2003, and contains the original seven studio albums they released between 1971 and 1977, the live album, ''Live sådan'' (but for some reason not ''Live i Skandinavien'') and ''Additional tracks''. The latter contains 19 songs, 18 rare and four of the songs are previously unreleased. Several other rare tracks such as "Endelig jul igen" and "Where Do We Go Now, Mon Ami" are for some reason absent. ''The Black Box'' was a big seller and confirmed that Gasolin' is the most popular rock band in Denmark ever. ''The Black Box'' is not the first box set with Gasolin'. In 1981 ''A Box Full of Gas'' was released containing ''Gas 5'', ''Efter endnu en dag'', ''Gør det noget'' and an EP with these songs: "Marken er høstet", "Skru op", "Som et strejf af en dråbe" and "Det er en kold tid". * ''Gasolin''' (1971) CBS 64685 * ''Gasolin' 2'' (1972) CBS 65229 * ''Gasolin' 3'' (1973) CBS 65798 * ''Stakkels Jim'' (1974) CBS ...

Gasolin'
Gasolin' were a Danish rock band from Christianshavn, Copenhagen, formed by Kim Larsen, Franz Beckerlee, and Wili Jønsson in 1969. Their first drummer was the late Bjørn Uglebjerg. He was replaced by Søren Berlev in 1971. At their formation, the guitar playing of Franz Beckerlee was inspired by Jimi Hendrix and the vocals and lyrics of Larsen were inspired by Bob Dylan, while the rhythm playing of Jønsson and Berlev owed much to The Beatles. However, they would soon develop their own musical style. The pop sensibility of Kim Larsen, the artistic attitude of Franz Beckerlee and the musical competence of Wili Jønsson would prove to be a recipe for success. Gasolin's lyrics were generally written by the entire group, often with the assistance of their friend Mogens Mogensen. History Franz Beckerlee and Wili Jønsson had known each other since they were boys, and as both played music they wanted to form a band together. While Beckerlee had been brought up without much love ...

Gør Det Noget
''Gør det Noget'' is Danish rock group Gasolin's seventh studio album. When Gasolin' released ''Gør det Noget'' in November 1977 (translation: "does it matter" or "so what"), they knew it was their last album. After the ambitious ''Gas 5'' and ''Efter endnu en dag'', Gasolin' decided to make a garage-rock album. Therefore, the service of Roy Thomas Baker was not needed and ''Gør det Noget'' was produced by Gasolin' and "Rocco" Tommy Bogs. The sound on ''Gør det Noget'' is raw and thunderous and songs such as "Jumbo Number Nul" and "Kina Rock" sounds like Sex Pistols. Sentimental ballads like "Kattemor" and "Længes Hjem" has a rawness due to the minimalist production, but all the songs are still very catchy. Especially "Det bedste til mig og mine venner" and "Strengelegen". From this album "Jumbo Nummer Nul" / "Kattemor" and "Kina Rock" / "Længes Hjem" were released as singles. ''Gør det Noget'' was recorded in Sweet Silence Studio in Copenhagen and engineered by Freddy Han ...

Book
A book is a medium for recording information in the form of writing or images, typically composed of many pages (made of papyrus, parchment, vellum, or paper) bound together and protected by a cover. The technical term for this physical arrangement is '' codex'' (plural, ''codices''). In the history of hand-held physical supports for extended written compositions or records, the codex replaces its predecessor, the scroll. A single sheet in a codex is a leaf and each side of a leaf is a page. As an intellectual object, a book is prototypically a composition of such great length that it takes a considerable investment of time to compose and still considered as an investment of time to read. In a restricted sense, a book is a self-sufficient section or part of a longer composition, a usage reflecting that, in antiquity, long works had to be written on several scrolls and each scroll had to be identified by the book it contained. Each part of Aristotle's ''Physics'' is called a ...

Stakkels Jim
''Stakkels Jim'' (aka ''Gas 4'') is a studio album by Gasolin' and was released in November 1974. It was the second album to be produced by Roy Thomas Baker. The raw rock of ''Gasolin' 3'' would on this record be replaced by a more polished and bombastic sound, and for the first time strings would be incorporated. ''Stakkels Jim'' does not rock as hard as ''Gasolin' 3'' and songs such as "Bingo" and "Perron 'Gare du Nord' " are quite poppish. However, epic rock songs such as "Legenden om Josha og Ming" and the title song, which was based on the " Auld lang syne" melody, would be the blueprint for their next album, ''Gas 5''. ''Stakkels Jim'' (translation: Poor Jim) was recorded in Rosenberg Studio in Copenhagen with Freddy Hansson as sound engineer. From this album "Onkel 'How Do You Do' " / "Johnny Lee" and "Bingo" / "Alla-Tin-Gala" were released as singles. ''Stakkels Jim'' was also released in England with English lyrics as ''The Last Jim'' in November 1974. ''Stakkels Jim'' w ...

Gasolin' 3
''Gasolin' 3'' was the third album from Danish rock band Gasolin', released in November 1973. It was the band's first album to be produced by Roy Thomas Baker. ''Gasolin' 3'' was recorded in Rosenberg Studio in Copenhagen with Freddy Hansson as sound engineer. The influence of Roy Thomas Baker is noticeable. The sound is more dynamic than on the two previous albums, especially the drum sound. Musically the songs are more heavy and hard-hitting and also more professional and commercial compared to the previous two albums. Furthermore, the moog synthesizer was introduced by Franz Beckerlee in songs such as "Rabalder" and "Sju-bi-du-bi-mand". With this album Gasolin achieved superstar status in Denmark. The tracks "Det var Inga, Katinka og Smukke Charlie på sin Harley" / "Jeg er splittergal" and "Bessefar" / "Smukke Linda" were released as singles. In 1974, ''Gasolin' 3'' was released with English lyrics as ''Gasolin'''. ''Gasolin' 3'' was released on CD in 1987 with '' Stakkels ...

Gasolin' 2
''Gasolin' 2'' was released in November 1972 and was received very well by the critics and the public. Musically they would loosen up after the sombre music of their debut album. "På en sommerdag", "Fi-fi dong" and "På banen" are up-tempo and jolly rock songs that would become popular in concert. "Se din by fra tårnets top", "Snehvide" (Snow white) and "Nanna" are slower songs with lyrics inspired by left-wing humanity. The latter song was also released on Kim Larsen's ''Værsgo'' (1973). Overall, ''Gasolin' 2'' has a laid back and cosy ambience. ''Gasolin' 2'' has one song not written by the band: "Min tøs" that is better known as "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" by Lead Belly. From this album "På en sommerdag" / "Se din by fra tårnets top" and "På banen" / "Min tøs" were released as singles. The cover album drawing was by Peder Bundgaard, he would go on to make their future album covers as well (with the exception of ''Gør det noget''). ''Gasolin' 2'' was produced by G ...

Gasolin' (album)
''Gasolin' ''(also called ''Gas 1'') is the debut studio album by Danish rock band Gasolin'. It was released in November 1971 by CBS Records. Instead of boogie rock and catchy tunes, they relied on creating songs with a moody feel such as "Langebro", "Fra dag til dag" and "Tremastet beton". The latter is recited by the poet Mogens Mogensen. Lead singer Kim Larsen later jokingly referred to the song as the first Danish rap. The lyrics and the music have a dark and mysterious ambience. From this album "Langebro" was released on the single with "Lilli-Lilli" on the b-side. The album was produced by the band itself in Copenhagen and sound engineer, Freddy Hansson went to Trident Studios in London to mix it with Roy Thomas Baker. He would later become Gasolin's producer. The cover was an illustration made by Hergé (originally from The Seven Crystal Balls), who loved the fact that a rock band would use one of his drawings for an album cover. The album was released on CD in 1987 with ...

Efter Endnu En Dag
''Efter endnu en dag'' ("After Another Day" in English) is the sixth studio album by Gasolin' and was released in November 1976. It was the last Gasolin' album to be produced by Roy Thomas Baker. In ''Efter endnu en dag'' the bombastic rock of '' Stakkels Jim'' and '' Gas 5'' was replaced by a more eclectic sound, making this album their equivalent of '' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band''. "Pilli villi" and "Pas på svinget i solrød" are up-tempo rock songs, while "De fem årstider" and "This Is My Life" are ballads. In between are sing-along pop hymns such as "Sirenesangen" and swing jazz songs such as "Bella Donna". "Stenalderjazz" is an instrumental played by a symphony ensemble and not by Gasolin'. It was arranged by Palle Mikkelborg. The title song and "De gule enker" would surface again on '' Killin' Time'' as "Closer" and "Magic Garden". "This Is My Life" can be heard in an up-tempo rock version on Kim Larsen's ''Kim Larsen og Yankee drengene'' (1978) and ''Live i Sk ...

Rock Music
Rock music is a broad genre of popular music that originated as " rock and roll" in the United States in the late 1940s and early 1950s, developing into a range of different styles in the mid-1960s and later, particularly in the United States and United Kingdom.W. E. Studwell and D. F. Lonergan, ''The Classic Rock and Roll Reader: Rock Music from its Beginnings to the mid-1970s'' (Abingdon: Routledge, 1999), p.xi It has its roots in 1940s and 1950s rock and roll, a style that drew directly from the blues and rhythm and blues genres of African-American music and from country music. Rock also drew strongly from a number of other genres such as electric blues and folk, and incorporated influences from jazz, classical, and other musical styles. For instrumentation, rock has centered on the electric guitar, usually as part of a rock group with electric bass guitar, drums, and one or more singers. Usually, rock is song-based music with a time signature using a verse–chorus form, ...
