Binka Zhelyazkova
Binka Zhelyazkova ( bg, Бинка Желязкова, 15 July 1923 – 31 July 2011), was a Bulgarian film director who made films between the late 1950s and the 1990s. She was the first Bulgarian woman to direct a feature film and one of the few women worldwide to direct feature films in the 1950s. Career Zhelyazkova graduated from the Sofia Theatre Institute in 1956 and briefly worked as an assistant director at Sofia Film Studios "Boyana" before directing her first feature, ''Life Flows Quietly By...'' (1957). This film established the collaboration with her husband, screenwriter Hristo Ganev, with whom she worked on many of her films. The film explored the lives of the former partisan fighters now in positions of power and was critical of the communist régime in Bulgaria. The leadership of the Bulgarian Communist Party reacted with fury and for 30 years banned the film by Party decree. Juozas Budraitis (born 6 October 1940) is a Lithuanian actor. He has appeared in more than 60 films and television shows since 1966. He starred in the Soviet film ''Wounded Game'', which was entered into the 1977 Cannes Film Festival. Budraitis also played a minor role in the finale of the period drama miniseries '' The Queen's Gambit''. Biography Juozas Stanislavas Budraitis was born on 6 October 1940 in the village of Liepynai, Kelmė, Lithuania in a peasant family. In 1945, the family moved to Klaipėda, and in 1955 – to the small town of Švėkšna. In the years 1958-1960, Budraitis worked as a laborer at a training and production plant in Klaipėda. After serving in the army, he entered the law faculty of Vilnius University. Małgorzata Braunek (30 January 1947 – 23 June 2014) was a Polish film and stage actress. Early life Małgorzata Braunek was born in Szamotuły. She studied acting department at National Higher School of Theatre in Warsaw until 1969, when she dropped out from to start her film career. Personal life She was married three times: first briefly to actor Janusz Guttner, whom she divorced in 1971; then to director Andrzej Żuławski from 1971 to 1976, with whom she had a son, Xawery; and lastly to Andrzej Krajewski until her death, with whom she had a daughter, Orina (born in 1987). She was also a long-time practitioner and teacher of Zen Buddhism receiving Dharma transmission from Dennis Merzel at Kanzeon Sangha (Warsaw) in 2003. Death On 23 June 2014 Braunek died from complications from ovarian cancer in Warsaw, aged 67. She was buried at Evangelical-Augsburg Cemetery, beside her mother, on 5 July 2014.
