The Big Game (1942 Film)
''The Big Game'' (german: Das große Spiel) is a 1942 German sports film directed by Robert A. Stemmle and starring René Deltgen, Gustav Knuth and Heinz Engelmann. It featured famous German footballers of the era. Ernst Lehner
Ernst Lehner (7 November 1912 – 10 January 1986) was a German footballer. He was born in Augsburg and died in Aschaffenburg. International He played for the Germany national football team in the 1934 FIFA World Cup and the 1938 FIFA World Cup. In total, he made 65 appearances and scored 31 goals for the national team. Lehner was a member of the Breslau Eleven that beat Denmark 8–0 in Breslau in 1937 and went on to win 10 out of 11 games played during that year. His position was that of an outside right. He was also part of Germany's squad at the 1936 Summer Olympics. Career Ernst Lehner was one of the paciest and most skilled outside rights of the mid-/late-1930s. Andreas Kupfer
Andreas Kupfer (7 May 1914, in Schweinfurt – 30 April 2001, in Marktbreit) was a German football player. Career Kupfer played for VfR 07 Schweinfurt until 1933 and then joined 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 for the rest of his career. On the national level he played for Germany national team (44 matches/1 goal), and was a participant at the 1938 FIFA World Cup. Kupfer was one of two FC Schweinfurt 05 players featured in the Breslau Elf that beat Denmark 8:0 in Breslau in 1937 and went on to win 10 out 11 games played during that year. 'Ander' Kupfer was one of the best half backs in the history of German football and is the only player to have played Germany's last international game before the end of World War II (played in 1942) and the first one after the war (in 1950). Fritz Balogh
Fritz Balogh (16 December 1920 – 14 January 1951) was a German footballer who played as a forward. His first club was ''DSK Preßburg'' (Bratislava). In 1941, he joined Hertha BSC as a wartime guest player. After the Second World War, Balogh played for VfL Neckarau. On 22 November 1950 he participated in his first and only international in the Germany national team, a 1–0 victory against Switzerland. This became the only national-level appearance from a player playing for VfL Neckarau. Balogh fell from a train when returning from a match against Bayern Munich on 14 January 1951. Lucy Millowitsch (8 November 1905 – 21 June 1990) was a German stage-actress, screen star, stage director/producer, theatre co-owner/manager and dramatist. Wolfgang Staudte
Wolfgang Staudte (9 October 1906 – 19 January 1984), born Georg Friedrich Staudte, was a German film director, script writer and acting, actor. He was born in Saarbrücken. After 1945, Staudte also looked at German guilt in the cinema. Alongside Helmut Käutner, he was considered the only German post-war director of any standing who, after 1945, could look back on continuous artistic filmmaking far removed from Heimatfilm and the suppression of history. Staudte's films stood for politically committed cinema as well as for professional craftsmanship, for film art and (good) entertainment with a social claim.
