ZZ Top
ZZ Top is an American rock band formed in 1969 in Houston, Texas. For 51 years, they comprised vocalist-guitarist Billy Gibbons, drummer Frank Beard and vocalist-bassist Dusty Hill, until Hill's death in 2021. ZZ Top developed a signature sound based on Gibbons' blues guitar style and Hill and Beard's rhythm section. They are popular for their live performances, sly and humorous lyrics, and the matching appearances of Gibbons and Hill, who wore sunglasses, hats and long beards. ZZ Top formed after the demise of Moving Sidewalks, Gibbons' previous band, in 1969. Within a year, they signed with London Records and released ''ZZ Top's First Album'' (1971). Subsequent releases, such as ''Tres Hombres'' (1973) and ''Fandango!'' (1975), and the singles " La Grange" and " Tush", gained extensive radio airplay. Frank Beard (musician)
Frank Lee Beard (born June 11, 1949) is an American drummer best known as a member of the rock band ZZ Top. Early life Beard was born in Frankston, Texas, and attended Irving High School in Irving, Texas. Career Before joining ZZ Top, Beard was a member of a fake version of the British band the Zombies, which toured in the US without authorization from the original band members, and also was part of the Outlaws with later ZZ Top member Dusty Hill. Other bands Beard and Hill played with early in their careers included the Cellar Dwellers, the Hustlers, the Warlocks, and American Blues. In May 1969, Beard joined The Moving Sidewalks, a band that would become ZZ Top in July 1969. Beard also introduced Gibbons to Hill. After honing their trademark "Texas boogie-blues-rock" style, they released ''ZZ Top's First Album'' on London Records in January 1971. The Kent Music Report was a weekly record chart of Australian music singles and albums which was compiled by music enthusiast David Kent from May 1974 through to January 1999. The chart was re-branded the Australian Music Report (AMR) in July 1987. From June 1988, the Australian Recording Industry Association, which had been using the top 50 portion of the report under licence since mid-1983, chose to produce their own listing as the ARIA Charts. Before the Kent Report, ''Go-Set'' magazine published weekly Top-40 Singles from 1966, and Album charts from 1970 until the magazine's demise in August 1974. David Kent later published Australian charts from 1940 to 1973 in a retrospective fashion, using state by state chart data obtained from various Australian radio stations. La Grange (song)
"La Grange" is a song by the American rock group ZZ Top, from their 1973 album '' Tres Hombres''. One of ZZ Top's most successful songs, it was released as a single in 1973 and received extensive radio play, rising to No. 41 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in June 1974. The song refers to a brothel on the outskirts of La Grange, Texas (later called the " Chicken Ranch"). The brothel is also the subject of the Broadway play and film ''The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas''. The first time ZZ Top played the song in La Grange, Texas was during the Fayette County Fair on September 5, 2015. ''Rio Grande Mud'' is the second studio album by the American rock band ZZ Top. It was released in 1972 by London label. The album title was inspired by the Rio Grande, the river that forms the border between Mexico and Texas. Background ZZ Top frontman Billy Gibbons said of the album: It was the first record that brought us into step with the writing experience. We started documenting events as they happened to us on the road; all of these elements went into the songwriting notebook. Kenny Cordray
Kenneth Cordray (July 21, 1954 – May 21, 2017) was an American instrumental guitarist and songwriter, who shared the stage with notable musicians and performers such as John Mayall, John Lee Hooker and Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top. Cordray became the lead guitarist for The Children under the ATCO label and later on ODE records produced by Lou Adler. He co-wrote the song "Francine", which peaked at 69 on the Billboard Hot 100, with Steve Perron for ZZ Top's album ''Rio Grande Mud''. Cordray performed and wrote music with Jaco Pastorius and played in Wayne Cochran and the C.C. Rider band at Pastorius' request. While playing with the C.C. Riders, Cordray backed up Jerry Lee Lewis on an episode of the ''Midnight Special'' and in concert. He moved to New Orleans to play with the former C.C. ''Tres Hombres'' (English: ''Three Men'') is the third studio album by the American rock band ZZ Top. It was released by London Records in July 1973 and was the band's first collaboration with engineer Terry Manning. It was the band's commercial breakthrough; in the US, the album entered the top ten while the single " La Grange" reached number 41 on the Billboard Hot 100. Recording and production The track " Waitin' for the Bus" segues into " Jesus Just Left Chicago" almost seamlessly. ''Houston Chronicle'' entertainment writer Andrew Dansby wrote in 2013 that this fusing of the songs was not the original plan.
