Rednex
Rednex is a Swedish musical group whose style is a mix of American country music and modern Eurodance, with their appearance and stage names taking inspiration from the American redneck stereotypes. The band originally consisted of the lead singer Mary Joe (Annika Ljungberg), alongside Bobby Sue (Kent Olander), Ken Tacky (Arne Arstrand), Billy Ray (Jonas Nilsson) and Mup (Patrick Edenberg). Pat Reiniz (Patrick Edenberg) also served as the band's producer. The band has gone through multiple lineup changes throughout its existence, with none of the members having an uninterrupted tenure. The group enjoyed success throughout the 1990s with novelty hits such as "Cotton Eye Joe", "Old Pop in an Oak", "The Spirit of the Hawk" and "Wish You Were Here", which often topped the charts in several European countries. Band history 1994–1995: Formation and ''Sex & Violins'' Rednex was initially the brainchild of Swedish producers Janne Ericsson, Örjan "Öban" Öberg, and Patrick Edenb ...

Sex & Violins
''Sex & Violins (''also known on later US releases as ''Cotton Eye Joe (Sex & Violins)'') is the debut studio album by Swedish Eurodance group Rednex, released on Jive Records in February 1995. Content Female vocals on the album are provided by Annika Ljungberg; due to a disagreement with the other band members, she left the band after the release of the album's fifth single, " Rolling Home", in 1996, to start a solo career. The album was a commercial success, including the hit dance single "Cotton Eye Joe". For its US release, the album was retitled ''Cotton Eye Joe (Sex & Violins)'' and received new cover art – presumably due to the possible offensive nature of the original artwork, which depicted a person urinating into a cup. Initially, the album received an edited version of this cover, which removed both the person and the stream of urine. This would be substituted for wholly original artwork for a short time, which depicted a desert landscape warped by heat haze, but ret ...

Wild 'N Free
"Wild 'N Free" is a country-dance song by the Swedish band Rednex, released as the fourth single from their debut album, ''Sex & Violins''. Its techno-country dance style is built around a re-recorded sample of "The Infernal Galop" from Act II, Scene 2 from Jacques Offenbach's ''Orpheus in the Underworld''. The song appeared in the 2006 Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies film ''Barnyard'' in the scene where the character Wild Mike dances. Critical reception James Hyman from British magazine ''Music Weeks ''RM'' Dance Update commented, "Someone had to give the can-can a stompin' Euro-novelty workout. At least Rednex have done it in style with interesting production and remixes that include the slower Nightcrawlers/ Robin-S sounding ones from Rhythm on the Loose." Another editor, James Hamilton described it as a "fiddles scraped and 'French Can Can' whistled corny Village People-ish pop chanter". Chuck Campbell from ''Scripps Howard News Service'' wrote that "Rednex pull th ...

''Music & Media'' wrote that it "focuses on a totally different side. It's a ballad, sung with lots of Dolly-patented vibrato and pathos." David Nagy from ''Red Deer Advocate'' not ...

Electronica
Electronica is both a broad group of electronic-based music styles intended for listening rather than strictly for dancing and a music scene that started in the early 1990s in the United Kingdom. In the United States, the term is mostly used to refer to electronic music generally. History Early 1990s: origins and UK scene The original wide-spread use of the term "electronica" derives from the influential English experimental techno label New Electronica, which was one of the leading forces of the early 1990s introducing and supporting dance-based electronic music oriented towards home listening rather than dance-floor play, although the word "electronica" had already begun to be associated with synthesizer generated music as early as 1983, when a "UK Electronica Festival" was first held. At that time electronica became known as "electronic listening music", also becoming more or less synonymous to ambient techno and intelligent techno, and was considered distinct from other em ...

Dance Music
Dance music is music composed specifically to facilitate or accompany dancing. It can be either a whole musical piece or part of a larger musical arrangement. In terms of performance, the major categories are live dance music and recorded dance music. While there exist attestations of the combination of dance and music in ancient times (for example Ancient Greek vases sometimes show dancers accompanied by musicians), the earliest Western dance music that we can still reproduce with a degree of certainty are old fashioned dances. In the Baroque period, the major dance styles were noble court dances (see Baroque dance). In the classical music era, the minuet was frequently used as a third movement, although in this context it would not accompany any dancing. The waltz also arose later in the classical era. Both remained part of the romantic music period, which also saw the rise of various other nationalistic dance forms like the barcarolle, mazurka, ecossaise, ballade and po ...
