Eric Victor Burdon (born 11 May 1941) is an English singer. He was previously the lead vocalist of R&B and rock band the Animals and funk band War. He is regarded as one of the British Invasion's most distinctive singers with his deep, powerful blues-rock voice. He is also known for his aggressive stage performances. In 2008, he was ranked 57th in ''Rolling Stone'''s list of "The 100 Greatest Singers of All Time". Early life Eric Burdon was born in 1941 in Walker, Newcastle upon Tyne, England. His father, Matt, was originally from Tyneside. His mother, Rene, was originally from Ireland and moved to Scotland before settling in Newcastle in the 1930s. He also had a younger sister, Irene. Burdon later recalled that his middle name "Victor" had been chosen after encouragement from the Lord Mayor, who offered new mothers £25 if their new-borns were given a patriotic "war name." ''My Secret Life'' is an album by Eric Burdon released in 2004. It was his first solo album release, which contains new titles, in nearly 16 years. It was his comeback album. It features many different musical directions such as jazz, blues, soul, rock, ska, rhythm and blues, folk, boogie, world and pop. Burdon said in an interview that every song is different. The album peaked No. 93 on the German album chart after it sold 20,000 copies in the UK. Musicians on this album includes Red Young, Martin Gerschwitz, Terry Wilson and Jon Cleary. ''The Most of the Animals'' is the title of a number of different compilation albums by the British blues rock group the Animals. Although track listing varies, all feature only songs from 1964 and 1965. The title is derived from the name of their then producer Mickie Most (see also ''The Most of Herman's Hermits''). The first album was released in April 1966 by Columbia (SX 6035). Most of the material had not featured on either of their previous two UK LPs. The album reached number four - their highest position so far on the UK album chart (both previous LPs having peaked at number six). It was their final album for EMI-owned Columbia before moving to Decca. The album was issued on EMI's budget Music for Pleasure label in 1971 (MFP 5218) with a different track listing. It showcases the Animals' tough-edged pop hits combined with their more devoted blues and R&B workouts.
