The Berrics
The Berrics is a private indoor skatepark owned by professional skateboarders Steve Berra and Eric Koston. It is also a website providing content filmed in the skatepark, as well other skateboard-related media. The facility's name is a portmanteau of the owners' names (the "Ber" of Berra's surname and the "ric" of Koston's first name). History Establishment: 2007–2011 In an interview with ''Pop'' magazine, Berra revealed that prior to the launch of The Berrics, he had been offered a million-dollar deal to direct a film based on a screenplay that he had written. Skatepark
A skatepark, or skate park, is a purpose-built recreational environment made for skateboarding, BMX, scootering, wheelchairs, and aggressive inline skating. A skatepark may contain half-pipes, handrails, funboxes, vert ramps, stairsets, quarter pipes, ledges, spine transfers, pyramids, banked ramps, full pipes, pools, bowls, snake runs, and any number of other objects. History The first skatepark in the world, Surf City, opened for business at 5140 E. Speedway in Tucson, Arizona on September 3, 1965. Jerry Hsu
Jerry Hsu (born December 17, 1981) is a Taiwanese-American skateboarder, photographer and currently owner of clothing company "Sci-Fi Fantasy". As of October 2018, Hsu does not have pro status in skateboarding anymore and has no sponsors. Early life As of 2007, Hsu's family home remains located in San Jose, California, United States (U.S.). Hsu's family is originally from Taiwan, and his parents speak both English and Mandarin Chinese. Hsu explained in 2010 that his Chinese-language fluency is akin to a "third grader." Hsu started skateboarding in the early 1990s and he explained what he was attracted by in a 2013 interview: "I remember the reason I started skating was because I saw these kids with green hair and big pants and they looked so stupid, and I wanted to be that." Lucas Puig
Lucas Puig (born January 31, 1987) is a French professional skateboarder. Puig's skateboarding stance is regular and he is a member of the Palace Skateboards team. Early life Puig, whose ancestors come from Catalonia, grew up in Toulouse, France and commenced skateboarding during his early adolescence. Professional skateboarding Cliche Puig was under fourteen years of age when he began skateboarding with Cliché Skateboards. Puig has been sponsored by Cliche for the majority of his career and was an integral member of the brand's team. Greg Lutzka (born April 20, 1985) is a "goofy-footed" (naturally places his right foot at the nose of the skateboard) professional skateboarder Early life Lutzka was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States (US). Lutzka explained in 2014 that he "grew up on skates," and first tried ice skating at the age of two before playing ice hockey in high school. Lutzka commenced skateboarding at the age of nine after discovering it through his peers in the ice hockey team. Skateboarding was initially an activity that he enjoyed as an aside to ice hockey, but three years later, Lutzka replaced ice hockey with skateboarding because he "loved it so much." Torey Pudwill
Torey Jamieson Pudwill (born May 2, 1990), also known by his nickname "T-Puds", is an American professional street skateboarder. Early life Pudwill was born in Simi Valley, California, United States (US). In a February 2013 online interview, Pudwill explained that Justin Schulte (also a sponsored skateboarder as of March 2013) was the friend that he would mostly skateboard with during his early adolescence. As a teenager, Pudwill would spend his time skateboarding with his friend Arturo at the Skatelab in Simi Valley, California. Chris Haslam (skateboarder)
Chris Haslam (born December 19, 1980) is a Canadian professional skateboarder whose natural stance is right foot forward, or 'Goofy'. He is recognized as an innovative skateboarder whose skateboarding is defined by creativity and progression. Early life When he was 11 years of age, Haslam relocated to Singapore with his parents. Haslam's family returned to Canada for a year in 1996, living in Komoka, and Haslam attended St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School (London, Ontario). Haslam's interest in skateboarding began in November 1993, prior to his thirteenth birthday, and his first skateboard deck was from the Santa Cruz company. Michael Capaldi (born March 27, 1990), popularly known as Mike Mo Capaldi, is a professional regular-footed skateboarder who gained popularity following his video part in ''Forecast'', a video produced by professional skateboarder Paul Rodriguez. Early life Capaldi originates from Simi Valley, California, and attended Royal High School. Capaldi explained in early 2013 that the "Mo" in his name is a nickname that was given to him by his father while he was a young boy. Sean Malto (born September 9, 1989) is an American professional Skateboarding, skateboarder. Early life Malto is from Lansing, Kansas. He is of Euro-American and Filipino descent. Malto started skateboarding at the age of 10 at the hands of the inspiration of his older brothers Travis, Justin and Chris . He explained in a 2013 video segment for the Skullcandy brand that the Escapist Skate Shop in Kansas City metropolitan area, Kansas City supported his skateboarding from an early age and has never ceased in this role. Donovan Strain (born November 22, 1985) is a stand-up comedian and skateboarder living in Los Angeles, California. Biography Skateboarding Strain started the skateboarding-based comedy segment titled "Buttery Ass Mondays" on The Berrics, where he was credited for inventing the skateboarding tricks Grape Flip, and Double Grape Flip. The series ran until 2010 when it was cancelled and removed from the archives. In October 2013, Strain's "Buttery Ass Mondays" returned to The Berrics' archive, suggesting new episodes of the series would be made for 2014. Patrick John Ladd (born January 11, 1983), professionally known as PJ Ladd, is an American professional skateboarder whose stance is ''regular''. Ladd was labelled an "east coast legend" by fellow professional skateboarder and team manager John Rattray in May 2013. Early life Ladd was born in Rockland, Massachusetts and grew up in Boston. Erik Ellington
Erik Ellington (born August 9, 1977) is an American professional skateboarder, entrepreneur, and designer. Early life Erik Ellington was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, to Rose Ann Ellington and Charles Luther Ellington. His parents separated at an early age and he was raised collectively by his parents and step father Johnson Quarles. In his teens, he moved to Tempe, Arizona, after the passing of his father.
