Belief
A belief is an attitude that something is the case, or that some proposition is true. In epistemology, philosophers use the term "belief" to refer to attitudes about the world which can be either true or false. To believe something is to take it to be true; for instance, to believe that snow is white is comparable to accepting the truth of the proposition "snow is white". However, holding a belief does not require active introspection. For example, few carefully consider whether or not the sun will rise tomorrow, simply assuming that it will. Moreover, beliefs need not be ''occurrent'' (e.g. a person actively thinking "snow is white"), but can instead be ''dispositional'' (e.g. a person who if asked about the color of snow would assert "snow is white"). There are various different ways that contemporary philosophers have tried to describe beliefs, including as representations of ways that the world could be (Jerry Fodor), as dispositions to act as if certain things are true (Rod ...

On the album, Burbridge is joined by Mark Kimbrell on guitar, Matt Slocum on keyboards, Paul Henson on vocals, and Chris Fryar on drums. When asked to describe the Peacemakers' music, Burbridge used the word "fujospel" (funk, jazz and gospel). He commented: "To me it's just all different kinds of American Music thrown together. And I can't even say that cause a lot of rhythmic stuff that I hear comes from Africa, Cuba and a lot of the harmonic stuff comes from Europe, from classical composers like Stravinsky." Reception In a review for AllMusic, Scott Yanow wrote: "the music of Oteil & the Peacemakers is certainly impossible to classify. Is it jazz, blues, fusion, rock, pop, R&B, or a jam band? Actually, it is all of the above... this set will drive musical purists crazy but should delight those who enjoy all of these different ...

Believer (Chic Album)
''Believer'' is the seventh studio album by American band Chic, their last for the Atlantic Records label, and the last featuring the classic line-up of Nile Rodgers, Bernard Edwards, Alfa Anderson, Luci Martin, and Tony Thompson. The album includes the singles "Give Me the Lovin'" (#57 US R&B), "You Are Beautiful" (issued only in France, the Netherlands, and Scandinavia), and "Party Everybody" (issued only in Canada, Germany, and the Netherlands). The album failed to make much of an impact and shortly after its release the group disbanded. 1983 had seen Nile Rodgers releasing his first solo album, '' Adventures in the Land of the Good Groove'' - also largely overlooked, at least on a strictly commercial level. The following production assignment for David Bowie's '' Let's Dance'' (1983) album was to change the future for both Rodgers and his colleague Bernard Edwards completely. ''Believer'' was transferred to compact disc and re-released by Atlantic Records/Warner Music in 1991 ...

The Believers (novel)
''The Believers'' is a 2008 novel by Zoë Heller. It depicts the family of a controversial lawyer in New York after a stroke renders him comatose. Each member of the Litvinoff family must confront the hypocrisies underlying their patriarch's political profile, and make difficult choices about their own values and ideological commitments. The motto of the book—"The challenge of modernity is to live without illusions and without becoming disillusioned"—is a quotation from Antonio Gramsci. It has been noted that ''The Believers'', Heller's third novel, bears no resemblance to her previous book, the successful ''Notes on a Scandal'' (2003). Plot summary At a party in 1962, 18-year-old typist Audrey Howard meets Joel Litvinoff, an American lawyer involved with the civil rights movement. Although Joel is fourteen years older, Audrey is impressed when Joel puts her pompous date in his place. In turn, Joel is intrigued by Audrey's aloofness. Joel later finds Audrey's number ...
