The Belfry is a golf resort and hotel in Wishaw, Warwickshire, close to Sutton Coldfield, England, located approximately 8 miles from the centre of Birmingham. It was acquired by KSL Capital Partners in August 2012. The resort has three golf courses. The Brabazon Course is the main tournament course, and the others are the PGA National and The Derby. The headquarters of The Professional Golfers' Association are also located there, along with a 4-star hotel, tennis courts and a leisure spa. Wishaw is a village and civil parish in the north-west of Warwickshire, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 125. It is located within the district of North Warwickshire and is the home of The Belfry golf resort, which has hosted the Ryder Cup on four occasions. The village is also home to some notable buildings. The site of The Belfry was once the location of Moxhull Park, a stately home that belonged to the Ryland family (previously the Halket family) until it burnt down in the early twentieth century. The manor house was rebuilt one mile away to its present location on Holly Lane as Moxhull Hall. Wishaw is also the location of a church dedicated to the local Saint Chad. Sam Torrance
Samuel Robert Torrance (born 24 August 1953) is a Scottish professional golfer and sports commentator. He was one of the leading players on the European Tour from the mid-1970s to the late 1990s, with 21 Tour wins. Torrance was a member of European Ryder Cup teams on eight occasions consecutively; on Cup-winning teams four times. He was also part of the winning Scotland team at the 1995 Dunhill Cup. The 2008 European Tour was the 37th golf season since the European Tour officially began in 1972. The season began in November 2007 and consisted of 50 official money events, a drop of two from the previous year. This included seven major championships and World Golf Championships, which are also sanctioned by the PGA Tour. 27 events took place in Europe, 11 in Asia, six in the United States, four in South Africa, one in Australia and one in New Zealand. Rasmus Højgaard (born 12 March 2001) is a Danish professional golfer who won his first European Tour event at the 2019 AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, becoming the third youngest player to win on the European Tour. Amateur career Højgaard first came to prominence in July 2016 when he won the Danish International Amateur Championship, was part of the Danish team that finished third in the European Boys' Team Championship and won the McGregor Trophy in successive weeks. The UK Championship, known as the ISPS Handa UK Championship for sponsorship reasons, was a professional golf tournament which was held 27–30 August 2020 at The Belfry, in Wishaw, Warwickshire, England. The tournament was intended to be a one-off event and was the final leg of a six-week "UK swing" on the European Tour during the 2020 season. The 2020 European Tour was the 49th season of golf tournaments since the European Tour officially began in 1972 and the 12th edition of the Race to Dubai. The COVID-19 pandemic had a major impact on the season, with many tournaments being rescheduled or cancelled. All four major championships were affected; The Open Championship was cancelled, and the Masters Tournament, U.S. Open and PGA Championship were moved to dates much later in the year. Richard Bland (born 3 February 1973) is an English professional golfer. Career Bland was born in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire. He turned professional in 1996 and reached the final stage of the European Tour's qualifying school in 1997 to gain his card on Europe's second tier Challenge Tour for 1998. In 2001 he won for the first time, at the season ending Challenge Tour Grand Final. The win elevated him in the rankings sufficiently to gain a place on the European Tour for 2002. Jacob Thorbjørn Olesen (born 21 December 1989) is a Danish professional golfer who plays on the European Tour, where he has won six times including the 2016 Turkish Airlines Open and the 2018 Italian Open. The Betfred British Masters is a professional golf tournament. It was founded in 1946 as the Dunlop Masters and was held every year up to 2008, except for 1984. Dunlop's sponsorship ended in 1982, and the name sponsor changed frequently thereafter, with the words "British Masters" usually also in the tournament's official name. The 26th Ryder Cup Matches were held 13–15 September 1985 at the Brabazon Course of The Belfry in Wishaw, Warwickshire, England. Team Europe won the competition for the first time by a score of 16 to 11 points. This marked the first U.S. loss since 1957, previously the sole U.S. loss in fifty years. Europe took a two-point lead into the Sunday singles and increased their lead throughout Sunday.
