The Beautiful Boy
''The Beautiful Boy'' is a book by radical feminist academic Germaine Greer, published in 2003 as ''The Boy'' in the Commonwealth by Thames & Hudson and in the rest of the world by Rizzoli. Its avowed intention was "to advance women's reclamation of their capacity for and right to visual pleasure". The book is a study of the youthful male face and form, from antiquity to the present day, from paintings and drawings to statuary and photographs. The book was the subject of controversy due to its cover photo and topic matter. The subject of the book's cover picture, Björn Andrésen, stated that his permission was not attained for the photo's use. Some writers characterised the book's nature as paedophilic. Björn Andrésen
Björn Johan Andrésen (born 26 January 1955) is a Swedish actor and musician. He is best known for playing the 14-year-old Tadzio in Luchino Visconti's 1971 film adaptation of the 1912 Thomas Mann novella ''Death in Venice''. He also played a minor role in Ari Aster's 2019 folk horror film ''Midsommar''. Early life Andrésen's father has never been identified and his mother, Barbro Elisabeth Andrésen, took her own life when he was 10 years old. He was then brought up by his maternal grandparents. Part of his schooling was at a boarding school in Denmark. As a student Andrésen attended the Adolf Fredrik's Music School in Stockholm. Wellington City Libraries is the public library service for Wellington, New Zealand. Wellington Central Library From 1840 onwards various organisations attempted to establish a public library in Wellington. The first Council-operated public library opened in 1893 on the corner of Mercer and Wakefield Streets in a building designed by William Crichton, a prominent architect of the time. The library closed in 1940 and the building was demolished in 1943. The site was later occupied by the City Council municipal buildings that are still in use today. In 1940 a new library opened on a block between Mercer and Harris street. This building was converted into the City Gallery Wellington in 1993. In 1991 the new central branch library opened on Victoria and Mercer Streets along the edge of Civic Square.
