''The Ballade'' is a Japanese-only compilation album by the American Rock band Journey. Released in 1991, it comprises fifteen of their most popular love songs, including the #2 chart hit " Open Arms", the top 40 hits " Faithfully," "I'll Be Alright Without You," " Who's Crying Now," and "Still They Ride". The songs featured on this compilation are from the U.S. releases ''Infinity'', ''Evolution'', '' Departure'', ''Escape'', ''Frontiers'' and ''Raised on Radio''. The album has been reissued throughout the years, however never in the United States. Journey (band)
Journey is an American rock band formed in San Francisco in 1973 by former members of Santana, Steve Miller Band, and Frumious Bandersnatch. The band currently consists of guitarist/vocalist Neal Schon (the last original member), keyboardists/vocalists Jonathan Cain and Jason Derlatka, drummer/vocalist Deen Castronovo, bassist Todd Jensen, and lead vocalist Arnel Pineda. Journey had their biggest commercial success between 1978 and 1987, when Steve Perry was lead vocalist; they released a series of hit songs, including "Don't Stop Believin' (1981), which in 2009 became the top-selling track in iTunes history among songs not released in the 21st century. "Lights" is a song recorded by American rock band Journey and written by Steve Perry and Neal Schon, released in 1978. Background and writing The song is about Journey's city of origin, San Francisco, although it was actually written in and originally intended to be about Los Angeles. It was one of Steve Perry's first Journey songs, and was recorded soon after joining the band. In an interview, Perry said, "I had the song written in Los Angeles almost completely except for the bridge and it was written about Los Angeles. It is the first album to not feature founding bassist Ross Valory, who is replaced by session bassists Randy Jackson and Bob Glaub. ''Departure'' is the sixth studio album by American rock band Journey. It was released on February 29, 1980 by Columbia Records. ''Departure'' was Journey's highest-charting album to that point, giving them their first appearance in the top 10 of the ''Billboard'' 200 album charts, peaking at No. 8. The album includes "Any Way You Want It", the lead off track and top 25 single. The album featured an edgier sound, thanks partly to the "live in studio" way the songs were recorded. The band went into The Automatt studio with 19 tracks, eventually trimming down to 12. Three singles were released off of ''Departure''. ''Evolution'' is the fifth studio album by American rock band Journey, released in March 1979 by Columbia Records. It is the band's first album to feature drummer Steve Smith. ''Infinity'' is the fourth studio album by American rock band Journey, released in January 1978 by Columbia Records. It was the band's first album with vocalist Steve Perry and the last to feature drummer Aynsley Dunbar.
