The Aware
''The Aware'' (2003) is the first book in ''The Isles of Glory'' by Glenda Larke. Plot outline The Isles of Glory comprise eleven island nations. The main character in the novel, Blaze, has the ability to sense magic and as such is "Aware". This makes her useful to the lesser of the island nations and the novel follows her story as she searches for a mysterious slave woman and fights an evil that threatens all of the island nations. Characters Blaze Halfbreed :A halfbreed Awarewoman. Blaze is half-Southerner, half-Fen-islander. She was recently in the Keeper's employ as a bounty hunter or dunmaster assassin, but then left their service. Blaze Halfbreed is Tor Ryder's lover. Flame Windrider :A Cirkasian woman with sylvtalent. She is also the Castlemaid, the only offspring of the Castlelord and Castlelady. Glenda Larke
Glenda Larke, born Glenyce Larke, is an Australian writer. Biography Larke grew up in Western Australia. She obtained a degree in history and a diploma in education at University of Western Australia and has taught English in Australia, Vienna, Tunisia and Malaysia.She currently resides in Mandurah, Western Australia with her husband, who works with the United Nations, and two children. Larke's first novel, ''Havenstar'' was published in 1998 by Virgin Worlds in the UK under her married name of Glenda Noramly. In 2003, she returned to the fantasy genre under the name of Glenda Larke when Voyager Books released '' The Aware'', the first book in ''The Isles of Glory'' trilogy. Greg Bridges
Greg Bridges is an Australian artist. Biography Greg Bridges was born in Melbourne, Australia in the 1950s. When he was a child he was drawn into watching science-fiction films and was inspired by the artworks of Salvador Dalí. He travelled throughout Australia and the United States, Japan and the continent of Europe. Gilfeather
Frank Gilfeather (born 30 December 1945, Lochee, Dundee, Scotland) is a Scottish journalist and broadcaster. Gilfeather, a former Scottish amateur boxing champion from Dundee, moved to Aberdeen in April 1969 and began work on the Press & Journal and the Evening Express as a general news reporter. Later, when personnel was allocated to each paper, he was a news reporter on the P&J for some years before moving to the evening newspaper's sports desk as chief sportswriter and deputy sports editor. His broadcasting career began in 1980 with the launch of the Grampian Television (now ''STV North'') regional news programme, '' North Tonight''. Gilfeather joined the programme as a sports correspondent although he would later also work on news coverage. The Aurealis Award for Excellence in Speculative Fiction is an annual literary award for Australian science fiction, fantasy and horror fiction. Only Australians are eligible for the award. History The Aurealis Award was established in 1995 by ''Chimaera Publications'', the publishers of '' Aurealis Magazine''. Unlike the other major Australian speculative fiction award, the Ditmar Award, it divides work into subgenre and age categories, and is judged as such. The award was originally given out in the following divisions: Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, and Young Adult.
