The Artists Village
The Artists Village (TAV) is a Singapore-based contemporary art group. It is known as Singapore's first art colony, founded by contemporary artist Tang Da Wu in 1988. TAV is historicised as having produced significant shifts in the history of Singapore's contemporary art, known for its engagement with societal changes and issues through late-1980s and 1990s Singapore, with a particular emphasis on performance art, installation art, and Process art, process-based work. Some figures closely associated with TAV, apart from Tang, include Amanda Heng and Lee Wen. TAV's original space from 1988 to 1990 was a chicken farm at Lorong Gambas in Sembawang, Ulu Sembawang, which has since been redeveloped. 5th Passage
The 5th Passage Artists Limited, commonly known as 5th Passage or 5th Passage Artists, was an artist-run initiative and contemporary art space in Singapore from 1991 to 1994. As a registered, artist-led non-profit organisation, it was one of the earliest of its kind for early-1990s Singapore, with its initial space located at Parkway Parade, a shopping centre in the east of the city. The "meteoric existence" of 5th Passage has been noted alongside other art collectives and alternative spaces existing in 1990s Singapore, such as The Artists Village, The Substation, Plastique Kinetic Worms, and Trimurti. 5th Passage was co-founded in 1991 by Suzann Victor, Susie Lingham, and Han Ling, later joined by Daniel Wong, Henry Tang and Iris Tan. Robertson Quay
Robertson Quay is a wharf near the source of the Singapore River. It is the largest and most upstream of the three wharfs (the other two being Boat Quay and Clarke Quay) on the river and is named after a municipal counsellor Dr J Murray Robertson.Koh, T. Objectifs is an independent non-profit visual arts space in Singapore that aims to cultivate original voices in visual storytelling, and to inspire and broaden perspectives through the power of images. Sculpture Square
Sculpture Square was a non-profit arts organization located at 155 and 161 Middle Road, Singapore. It was founded by sculptor Sun Yu-Li in 1995 as a venue with the focus on exhibiting and fostering ‘3-dimensional’ and other forms of sculptural arts in Singapore. The venue officially opened to the public in March 1999 with the exhibition ''Provocative Things: A Three Dimensional Experience in Singapore.'' The organization also often held annual ‘Sculpture Carnival’ events for the public, which was mainly targeted towards children and young adults in order to hone their interest in the arts. Middle Road, Singapore
Middle Road is a road in the Central Area of Singapore, stretching along the Downtown Core and Rochor planning areas. It starts from its junction with Selegie Road and ends at its junction with Nicoll Highway. The National Arts Council (NAC) is a statutory board established on 15 October 1991 to oversee the development of arts in Singapore. It is under the purview of the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth. Art Critic
An art critic is a person who is specialized in analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating art. Their written critiques or reviews contribute to art criticism and they are published in newspapers, magazines, books, exhibition brochures, and catalogues and on websites. Some of today's art critics use art blogs and other online platforms in order to connect with a wider audience and expand debate about art. Differently from art history, there is not an institutionalized training for art critics (with only few exceptions); art critics come from different backgrounds and they may or may not be university trained.
