The Artificial Heart
The Artificial Heart is an Austin, Texas-based band featuring Rory Phillips and Craig Tweedy, both formerly of The Impossibles. It also featured guitarist Scott Clapsaddle, vocalist Andrew Collins, and drummer Santiago "Jimmy" Vela III. History The band's beginnings can be traced as far back as 2004, when Rory begin the project Nineteen Ninety-Now with Scott Clappsaddle. The short lived project produced the song "Love Won't Be Enough", which has since become part of The Artificial Heart's live shows. Phillips rejoined with The Impossibles bassist Craig Tweedy and the band changed their name. The band name began as Rory and the Artificial Heart, but has since been shortened to just The Artificial Heart. Rory and the Artificial Heart began posting songs on their Myspace page in the spring of 2006. Phillips has produced all of the band's material and the early demo recordings were recorded on his own. The Impossibles (American Band)
The Impossibles (1994–1998, 2000–2002, and 2012) are a rock music band from Austin, Texas, originally on the Fueled by Ramen label. They played ska punk prior to their first break-up in 1998, but transitioned to a more indie rock/alternative sound upon reuniting. In their time together, The Impossibles played shows with Less Than Jake, Sugarcult, The Toadies, Recover and others. Lead singers Rory Phillips and Gabe Hascall were also in the Fueled by Ramen group Slowreader following the band's second break-up, in 2002. On February 13, 2012, the Impossibles announced a reunion show and launched a new website. Cruiserweight was an American rock band from Austin, Texas, United States. The band consisted of vocalist Stella Maxwell, guitarist Urny Maxwell, bassist David Hawkins, and drummer Yogi Maxwell. The band's sound was defined by peppy female vocals, as well as fast, sometimes aggressive instrumentals, while still retaining a pop/punk overtone. The name originated from the boxing weight class of the same name. History Prior to Cruiserweight, brothers Urny and Yogi Maxwell had been in a little-known band called Red Boxing from 1996 to 1998. Rory Phillips
Rory Allen Phillips is an American musician and founding member of Austin, Texas punk-ska band The Impossibles. Phillips also started The Stereo with Jamie Woolford of Animal Chin in 1999, and Slowreader with Impossibles bandmate Gabe Hascall in 2001. Phillips's current band is the reassembled The Stereo who, in 2022, self-released the album Thirteen and a podcast detailing the rise and fall of The Stereo called Kings of No Hope. Some of his side projects include Imbroco's "Are You My Lionkiller?"; the 20goto10; Nineteen Ninety-Now; Amex; a 2000-2005 mixtape under Rory Allen Phillips; and The Artificial Heart. Samiam
Samiam (pronounced "sam-I-am") is an American punk rock band from Berkeley, California, active since 1988. History Samiam was formed in late 1988 after the breakup of the Gilman club mainstay Isocracy. Their first show was in January 1989 with Christ on Parade. They released records through New Red Archives and Hopeless Records in the US and Burning Heart Records in Europe. In the mid-'90s, the band had two releases on major labels, Atlantic Records in 1994 and Ignition/Tommy Boy in 1997. This path achieved modest mainstream success; a video for "Capsized" gained considerable airplay on MTV, they performed on ''The Jon Stewart Show'' in 1994 and the single "She Found You" garnered considerable radio play in 1998. Sparta is an American rock band from El Paso, Texas, formed in 2001. The band currently consists of Jim Ward (vocals, guitar) and Matt Miller (bass), who are touring as a three-piece with rotating session drummers. Founding members Ward, Paul Hinojos, and Tony Hajjar were members of post-hardcore group At the Drive-In, forming Sparta in 2001 after the break-up of their former band. The band entered a hiatus from 2008 onwards for Ward to focus on his solo career and side projects, reuniting from 2011 to 2013 for a series of shows and permanently reuniting in 2017. Jim Ward (musician)
James David Ward (born September 19, 1976) is an American musician. A self-taught guitarist and pianist, he is the lead singer and rhythm guitarist for the band Sparta; he is also a co-founder of the post-hardcore band At the Drive-In, which he formed in 1993 when he was 17 years old. At the Drive-In While in At the Drive-In, Ward played guitar and sang backup vocals, as well as playing piano and keyboards on select songs. He performed lead vocals on two tracks, entitled ''"Hourglass"'' and ''"Ursa Minor"'', as well as singing co-lead with lead vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala on a number of tracks. Using the money from his college savings, he created the label "Western Breed Records" specifically to release Hell Paso and Alfaro Vive, Carajo!, At the Drive-in's first two releases. Recover is an American rock band from Austin, Texas. History Recover is a post-hardcore band composed of Dan Keyes (guitar/vocals), Robert Mann (guitar/vocals), Ross Tweedy (bass), and Santiago "Jimmy" Vela III (drums). The band recorded a four-song demo in the spring of 2000. The demo found its way to Fueled by Ramen Records via the band's friends in fellow Austin band The Impossibles. The band later released their debut album, ''Rodeo & Picasso'', in the summer of 2001. The band toured extensively in support of the album, and in 2002, released a follow-up EP on Fiddler Records, ''Ceci n'est pas recover''. The band continued an exhaustive touring schedule with bands such as Jimmy Eat World, AFI, The Get Up Kids, Braid, Thrice, My Chemical Romance, Thursday, Taking Back Sunday and Coheed and Cambria.
