The Arlington
The Arlington is a tall mixed-use high-rise in Charlotte, North Carolina. The building was the first residential high-rise and first mixed use high-rise development in the city. The developer, Jim Gross, is also noted for the first downtown residential development (Ivey's) and the first loft-style development in the city (Factory South) among many other developments. It was completed in 2003 and has 24 floors and an outdoor swimming pool on the roof. It is the 16th tallest building in Charlotte, and is the tallest building outside of downtown. It was originally planned to be and 42 stories tall when announced in September 1997, but it was scaled back because the developer was unable to secure the financing required to build a 425-foot (130 m) building. Arlington Apartments, Edmonton
The Arlington Apartments or The Arlington was the first apartment building to open in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, in 1909. The 49 suite, five-storey redbrick building stood at 100 Avenue and 106 Street until 2005 when it was destroyed by fire. The building was a prime example of Edmonton's pre-Great War building boom that managed to survive into the 21st century. The building was financed by a consortium of local business leaders who formed the Arlington Apartment Company. Among the original owners were George Swaisland, an Ontario-born banker who managed the Molson's Bank in Edmonton and Patrick O. Dwyer, president of Northern Investment Agency Limited. Building construction was supervised by Robert Grant of Winnipeg; it was erected between July and December 1909 at a cost of $130,000. Carson is a light rail station in Charlotte, North Carolina. The at-grade dual side platforms are a stop along the Lynx Blue Line and serves the South End neighborhood. Location The station is located next to Carson Boulevard and is accessible by sidewalk and the Charlotte Rail Trail. The immediate area features multi-level apartments and offices, with the Arlington (the pink building) and Dowd YMCA located nearby. History The station officially opened for service on Saturday, November 24, 2007, and as part of its opening celebration fares were not collected.
