Architectural League Of New York
The Architectural League of New York is a non-profit organization "for creative and intellectual work in architecture, urbanism, and related disciplines". The league dates from 1881, when Cass Gilbert organized meetings at the Salmagundi Club for young architects. In early years, members took turns assigning sketch problems with solutions then critiqued by established architects. In 1886 it was restarted by architect Russell Sturgis with exhibitions, lectures, dinners, tours, and juried annual exhibitions. In 1934, the league allowed women to become members; Nancy Vincent McClelland was the first woman to join among many others. During its history, many of New York's most prominent architects have served as president, including George B. Post, Henry Hardenbergh, Grosvenor Atterbury, Raymond Hood, Ralph Walker, Wallace Harrison, and more recently, Ulrich Franzen, Robert A.M. Michael Meredith (architect)
Michael Meredith (born 1971) is an American architect, principal and co-founder of award-winning architecture firm MOS Architects in New York City. Education Meredith received a Master of Architecture with distinction from the Harvard Graduate School of Design (2000) and a Bachelor in Architecture from Syracuse University (1994). Professional life With partner Hilary Sample, they founded MOS Architects in 2003. Meredith and Sample teach at Princeton University School of Architecture and Columbia University, respectively, and their academic research occurs in parallel to the real-world constraints and contingencies of practice, informing both. Stan Allen
Stan Allen (born 1956) is an American architect, theorist and former dean of Princeton University School of Architecture. Biography He received a B.A. from Brown University, a B.Arch. from Cooper Union and an M.Arch. from Princeton University. He has worked in the offices of Richard Meier and Rafael Moneo, and was formerly the director, with landscape architect James Corner at Field Operations. The work of this interdisciplinary collaboration was recognized with first prizes in invited competitions for the re-use of Fresh Kills in Staten Island (2001), and the Arroyo Parkway in Pasadena, California (2002). His practice, Stan Allen Architect, is based in New York City. Claire Weisz is an architect and co-founder of the firm WXY who have been involved in significant elements of redesigning New York City's built landscape. Laura Kurgan
Laura Kurgan is a South African architect and an associate professor at Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP). Reinhold Martin
Reinhold Martin (born 1964) is an American architectural historian and professor. He currently serves as Professor of Architecture in the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation at Columbia University, where he directed the Temple Hoyne Buell Center for the Study of American Architecture. Nader Tehrani
Nader Tehrani (born 1963 in London) is an Iranian-American designer and educator. In 2011 in partnership with Katherine Faulkner, Tehrani founded NADAAA, a practice dedicated to the advancement of design innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and an intensive dialogue with the construction industry.
