The Arch And The Butterfly
The Arch and the Butterfly ( Ar: قوس والفراشة) is a novel by Moroccan author Mohammed Achaari published in 2010. It is considered an extension of the author's first novel, South of the Spirit, because it re-enacts the clan. The novel traces the transformations of three generations of the Moroccan family of the Fersiwi family. Plot The novel tells the story of the Al-Farsawi dynasty, a humble family from the countryside coming from Boumandara to the town of Zarhoun. In this sense, the novel depicts the fate of successive generations. First generation The story begins with Muhammad al-Farsiwi, the grandfather who spent 20 years in Germany, during which he discovered German poetry. After that, he decided to return home with his German wife Diotima, whose name refers to the name of the wife of the German poet Hölderlin, hoping to restore the glories of his Berber ancestors. Mohammed Achaari
Mohammed Achaari ( ar, محمد الأشعري; born 1951) is a Moroccan writer and politician. Early life He was born in Moulay Driss Zerhoun. He studied law at the Mohammed V University and graduated in 1976. He published a collection of short stories, six collections of poetry and one novel. Some of his works have been translated into French, Spanish, Russian and Dutch. He wrote articles for several Moroccan newspapers like Al-Alam and Al Ittihad Al Ichtiraki. Political life During the early 1980s, he was jailed for his political activities. He has been elected president of the Moroccan Union of Writers twice in the period 1989-96. In 1997, Achaari was elected delegate for Rabat and in 1998 he became Minister of Culture and in 2002 delegate for Meknes. 2011 Arabic Booker Prize Achaari was announced joint winner of the 2011 Arabic Booker Prize for his novel '' The Arch and the Butterfly''. Friedrich Hölderlin
Johann Christian Friedrich Hölderlin (, ; ; 20 March 1770 – 7 June 1843) was a German poet and philosopher. Described by Norbert von Hellingrath as "the most German of Germans", Hölderlin was a key figure of German Romanticism. Particularly due to his early association with and philosophical influence on Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel and Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling, he was also an important thinker in the development of German Idealism. Born in Lauffen am Neckar, Hölderlin had a childhood marked by bereavement. His mother intended for him to enter the Lutheran ministry, and he attended the Tübinger Stift, where he was friends with Hegel and Schelling. He graduated in 1793 but could not devote himself to the Christian faith, instead becoming a tutor. International Prize For Arabic Fiction
The International Prize for Arabic Fiction (IPAF) ( ar, الجائزة العالمية للرواية العربية) is the most prestigious and important literary prize in the Arab world. Its aim is to reward excellence in contemporary Arabic creative writing and to encourage the readership of high quality Arabic literature internationally through the translation and publication of winning and shortlisted novels in other major languages. In addition to the prize itself, IPAF supports other literary initiatives. In 2009, IPAF launched its inaugural Nadwa (writers’ workshop) for emerging writers of fiction in Arabic. The prize is administered by the Booker Prize Foundation in London, and is currently funded by Department of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi (DCT).
