''The Arcanum'', published by Bard Games in 1984, is the first book in the fantasy role-playing game '' Atlantean Trilogy'', later known simply as ''Atlantis''. Contents ''The Arcanum'' is the first book in ''The Atlantean Trilogy''. It includes a role-playing system largely based on the rules for '' Dungeons & Dragons'', but the generic information about the character classes and magic can also be used without the role-playing system, and adapted to another fantasy role-playing system such as ''D&D'' or ''RuneQuest'' to add an Atlantean flavor to the game. Evil Hat Productions is a company that produces role-playing games and other tabletop games. Chief among them is the free indie RPG, ''Fate'', which has won numerous awards. History Fred Hicks had been working with Lydia Leong, Rob Donoghue, and others to run LARPs at AmberCon NorthWest starting in 1999, and came up with the name Evil Hat for themselves. While on a trip to Lake Tahoe, friends Hicks and Donoghue developed a new game based on a conversation about running another ''Amber'' game and fixing some problems with ''FUDGE''; the result was ''Fate'' which Hicks and Donoghue would publish under the name Evil Hat. Donoghue and Hicks released a complete first-edition of ''Fate'' through Yahoo! Groups (January 2003) then cleaned up the technical writing and slightly polished the system for a second edition (August 2003). ''The Compleat Alchemist'' is a generic role-playing game supplement first published by Bard Games in 1982. Publication history Bard Games was formed in 1982 by Steven Cordovano and Stephan Michael Sechi to market generic fantasy role-playing supplements that could be adapted for any game system. Their first product was a 46-page softcover book called ''The Compleat Alchemist''. A preliminary edition with a white cover and brown cover art was published in 1982; the first edition with pink cover art was released the following year. In both cases, the contents were typewritten, and artwork was provided by Joe Bouza. Bard Games ceased operation in 1990. In 1994, Wizards of the Coast released an updated edition of ''The Compleat Alchemist'', a 71-page professionally typeset softcover book written by Cathleen Adkinson, Anthony Pryor, and Beverly Marshall Saling.
