The Aquarium (film)
''The Aquarium'' ( arz, جنينة الاسماك, translit. Genenet Al Asmak) is a 2008 Egyptian drama film directed by Yousry Nasrallah. Introduction Filmed in Egypt, Genenet Al Asmak ''جنينة الاسماك'' captures not only Cairo's Grotto Gardens but also her wounded society- a city of repression. Filmed in long continuous takes, the film conveys a sense of the real Egypt, through the depiction of the lives of Laila and Youssef. Synopsis Laila, portrayed by Hend Sabri, is a rather unhappy and lonely radio talk show host who listens to other people's fantasies on her late night segment. Youssef, played by Amr Waked, is an anesthetist by day and an illegal abortion surgeon by night. Gamal Abdel Nasser Hussein, . (15 January 1918 – 28 September 1970) was an Egyptian politician who served as the second president of Egypt from 1954 until his death in 1970. Yousry Nasrallah
Yousry Nasrallah ( ar, يسرى نصر الله ) (born 26 July 1952) is an Egyptian film director. Biography Nasrallah was born to a Coptic Christian family in Cairo. He graduated in economics and political science at Cairo University. Following, he worked as a film critic and directing assistant in Beirut from 1978 to 1982. He became assistant to Youssef Chahine whose company Misr International would go on to produce his films. Nasrallah's works have dealt with themes of leftism, Islamic fundamentalism, and expatriation. His 2012 film ''After the Battle'' competed for the Palme d'Or at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. Hend Sabry ( ar, هند صبري, born 20 November 1979) is a Tunisian Egyptian actress working in Egypt. Amr Waked ( ar, عمرو واكد ; born ) is an Egyptian film, television and stage actor. He is best known to international audiences and in Hollywood for his role in the 2005 film ''Syriana''. Other prominent roles include a Yemeni Sheikh called Muhammad in ''Salmon Fishing in the Yemen'', Pierre Del Rio in Luc Besson's ''Lucy'' and Farouk Hassan in '' Ramy. Gamil Ratib ( ar, جميل راتب; 18 August 1926 – 19 September 2018) was an Egyptian actor. He appeared in television and film productions and briefly in theater over a 65-year career. He was known for numerous villainous roles and his appearance in the English-language epic historical drama film ''Lawrence of Arabia''.
