The Annette Klooger Show
''The Annette Klooger Show'' is an Australian television series that aired 1959–61 on ABC1, ABC. Starring singer Annette Klooger, it was a half-hour variety series that aired live in Melbourne, and was kinescoped for showing in Sydney (it is not known if it was also shown on ABC's stations in Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth). In one episode, the performers were Klooger, Ted Preston Quartet, The Unichords, flute player John Wright, singer Frankie Davidson and singer Terry Stanhope. Archival status is unknown. Variety show, also known as variety arts or variety entertainment, is entertainment made up of a variety of acts including musical performances, sketch comedy, magic, acrobatics, juggling, and ventriloquism. It is normally introduced by a compère (master of ceremonies) or host. The variety format made its way from the Victorian era stage in Britain and America to radio and then television. Variety shows were a staple of English language television from the late 1940s into the 1980s. While still widespread in some parts of the world, such as in the United Kingdom with the '' Royal Variety Performance'', and South Korea with '' Running Man'', the proliferation of multichannel television and evolving viewer tastes have affected the popularity of variety shows in the United States. The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA), known as ScreenSound Australia from 1999 to 2004, is Australia's audiovisual archive, responsible for developing, preserving, maintaining, promoting and providing access to a national collection of film, television, sound, radio, video games, new media, and related documents and artefacts. The collection ranges from works created in the late nineteenth century when the recorded sound and film industries were in their infancy, to those made in the present day. The NFSA collection first started as the National Historical Film and Speaking Record Library (within the then Commonwealth National Library) in 1935, becoming an independent cultural organisation in 1984. Frankie Davidson
Francis Joseph Davidson (12 January 1934 − 22 July 2022) was an Australian entertainer who had several hit records in the 1960s, appeared on many TV variety shows, and acted in several Australian television police dramas, including ''Matlock Police'' and '' Bluey'', as well as guest roles in soap operas including '' A Country Practice'', '' E Street'' and '' Home and Away'' and a small role in film ''Muriel's Wedding''. Career Davidson was born in Black Rock, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria. While undergoing compulsory National Service training, he sang to entertain fellow recruits, and was an early adopter of the rock 'n' roll idiom. ABC Television is the general name for the national television services of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). Until an organisational restructure in 2017/2018, ABC Television was also the name of a division of the ABC. The name was also used to refer to the first and for many years the only national ABC channel, before it was renamed ABC1 and then again to ABC TV. The Australian public broadcaster's television service was launched in November 1956 from its first television station in Australia, ABN Sydney.
