The Animation Showcase
The Animation Showcase is a travelling film screening collection, showcasing animated short films. The showcase started in 2016, with the support of the private members club Soho House, with the intention of spotting upcoming creative talents in the animation industry and to promote animation in the creative industry. The Animation Showcase screening proposes a yearly "Best of the Year" selection, spotting films that become shortlisted and eventual nominees for the Academy Awards Best Animated Short Film category. The Animation Showcase has been screened in major animation studios, startups and locations such as Pixar animation studios, Laika, Disney Animation Studios, DreamWorks, Google San Francisco, YouTube London Blur Studio, Cartoon Network, and Soho House (London, New York, Berlin, Shoreditch East London) and became available worldwide for the Motion Picture Industry community via its own Streaming platform developed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Soho House
Soho House is a museum run by Birmingham Museums Trust, celebrating Matthew Boulton's life, his partnership with James Watt, his membership of the Lunar Society of Birmingham and his contribution to the Midlands Enlightenment and the Industrial Revolution. It is a Grade II* listed 18th-century house in Handsworth, part of Birmingham since 1911, but historically in the county of Staffordshire. It was the home of entrepreneur Matthew Boulton from 1766 until his death in 1809, and a regular meeting-place of the Lunar Society. History Matthew Boulton, one of the 18th century's most significant entrepreneurs, acquired the lease of the five-year-old Soho Mill in 1761 and developed it into Soho Manufactory. Streaming Platform
An over-the-top media service is a streaming media service offered directly to viewers via the Internet. OTT bypasses cable, broadcast, and satellite television platforms, the companies that traditionally act as a controller or distributors of such content. Most of these services are owned by a major film studio. Some streaming services started as an add-on to Blu-ray offerings, which are supplements to the programs watched. Streaming is an alternative to file downloading, a process in which the end-user obtains the entire file(s) for the content before watching or listening to it. A client end-user can use the media player, computer, mobile phone, and smart TV to start playing digital video content before the entire file have been transmitted. Garden Party (2016 Film)
''Garden Party'' is a 2017 French 3D computer-animated short film directed by Illogic Collective, six French 3D artists during their studies at MoPA, animation school in France. This short film is their graduation film. The short has been presented and won awards in a number of festivals including the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival, the SIGGRAPH, and the Nashville Film Festival where it won the Oscar Qualifying prize of Grand Jury Prize for best animation. The short was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at the 90th Academy Awards. Plot In a deserted rich house, a couple of amphibians explore their surroundings. Fx Goby
François-Xavier Goby (born 27 September 1983, Grasse) is a French director and illustrator based in London. Biography Fx Goby studied animation at Supinfocom, a pioneer school in computer animation in Valenciennes. He graduated in 2006 with a short animated film '' En Tus Brazos'', co directed with Edouard Jouret and Matthieu Landour, that toured festivals around the world and won awards, including a SIGGRAPH 2007 Award of Excellence. After living in Paris for three years, he moved to London joining Nexus Productions. He formed the directing duo Fx and Mat with university friend Matthieu Landour and directed several commercials and music videos including a Coca-Cola Super Bowl commercial in 2011. The duo split in 2012 to follow a solo career. ''To Build a Fire'' (French: ''Construire un Feu'') is a 2016 French animated short film directed by Fx Goby adapted from the 1902 and 1908 short story "To Build a Fire" by Jack London. Alan Barillaro
Nicolas Alan Barillaro is a Canadian director, animator and writer at Pixar best known for his work on the animated short film ''Piper'', that earned him widespread acclaim and an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film which he shared with the film's producer Marc Sondheimer. ''Piper'' is a 2016 computer-animated short film produced by Pixar Animation Studios. Written and directed by Alan Barillaro, it was theatrically released alongside Pixar's ''Finding Dory'' on June 17, 2016. It won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at the 89th Academy Awards, becoming the first Pixar animated short to win the award since '' For the Birds'' in 2001. The short film involves a hungry baby sandpiper learning to overcome her fear of water. The Head Vanishes
''The Head Vanishes'' (French:''Une tête disparaît'') is a 2016 Canada/France animated short by Franck Dion about a woman with dementia who is determined to make her annual train trip to the seaside. Co-produced by the National Film Board of Canada, Papy3D Productions and ARTE France, the film was partly inspired by Dion's experiences with his great-grandmother, with whom he was close and saw deteriorate mentally while he was a child. Dion began to work on the film in 2014, after deciding to depart from a feature-film project. A key narrative element in the film is the central character literally "losing her head" on the train trip—again inspired by a true-life anecdote involving his ill grandmother, who had once asked Dion's mother to fetch her head from under the sink, believing that it had rolled under there. Theodore Asenov Ushev ( bg, Теодор Асенов Ушев; born 4 February 1968) is a Bulgarian animator, film director and screenwriter based in Montreal. He is best known for his work at the National Film Board of Canada, including the 2016 animated short '' Blind Vaysha'', which was nominated for an Academy Award. He is a Chevalier of the ''Ordre des Arts et des Lettres'' of France. Life and career Ushev was born on 4 February 1968 in Kyustendil, Bulgaria, and graduated in stage decoration, animation, and make-up at Plovdiv's School of Scenic Arts. Blind Vaysha
''Blind Vaysha'' (French: ''Vaysha l'aveugle'') is a 2016 animated short by Theodore Ushev, produced by Marc Bertrand for the National Film Board of Canada, with the participation of ARTE France. Based on a story by Georgi Gospodinov, the film tells the story of a girl who sees the past out of her left eye and the future from her right—and so is unable to live in the present. Montreal actress Caroline Dhavernas performed the narration for the film, in both its French and English language versions. The film incorporates music from Bulgarian musician and composer Kottarashky and is his and Ushev's fourth collaboration. Andrew Justin Stewart Coats (born 1 February 1958) is an Australian–British academic cardiologist who has particular interest in the management of heart failure. His research suggested exercise training (rather than bed rest) as a more effective treatment for chronic heart failure. He is known for putting forward the "muscle hypothesis" of heart failure.
