The Alive And The Dead
''The Alive and the Dead'' (russian: Живые и мёртвые, Zhivye i myortvye) is a 1964 Soviet film directed by Aleksandr Stolper based on the eponymous 1959 novel ''The Living and the Dead'' by Konstantin Simonov. Plot The film takes place in a time warp from the first days of the Great Patriotic War and until the middle of the winter of 1941–1942, before the beginning of the Soviet counterattack near Moscow. Ivan Sintsov (Kirill Lavrov) is a correspondent with an army newspaper. The war starts while he is on vacation with his wife. He tries to return to his unit which is located in Western Belarus. However, it is impossible since the unit is overrun by the advancing Wehrmacht. Near the town of Borisov, he meets another officer also trying to reach his unit. They go on a road and try to get a car going in the direction they need. As the other officer stopped the car, a German air raid starts. The direct hit blows up the officer and the car he stops. Aleksandr Stolper
Aleksandr Borisovich Stolper (russian: Александр Борисович Столпер; 12 August 1907, in Dvinsk (now Daugavpils) – 12 January 1979, in Moscow) was a Soviet film director and screenwriter. He directed 14 films between 1940 and 1977. Aleksandr Stolper was awarded the Stalin Prize in 1949 and 1951 and received the honorary title People's Artist of the USSR in 1977. Zinovy Vysokovsky
Zinovy Moiseevich Vysokovsky (russian: Зиновий Моисеевич Высоковский; 28 November 1932 – 3 August 2009) was a Soviet and Russian theater and movie actor and variety performer. In 1978 he was awarded the People's Artist of the RSFSR. He was born in Taganrog, USSR. Biography In 1952 Zinovy Vysokovsky graduated with honors from the Chekhov Gymnasium. He went to Moscow with the intention to enter the Shchukin Drama School. Mikhail Alexandrovich Ulyanov (russian: Михаил Александрович Ульянов; 20 November 1927 – 26 March 2007) was a Soviet and Russian actor who was one of the most recognized persons of the post-World War II Soviet theatre and cinema. Major general (abbreviated MG, maj. gen. and similar) is a military rank used in many countries. It is derived from the older rank of sergeant major general.
