The African Princess
The African Princess is the first studio album from Tanzanian singer Nandy. It was released on November 9, 2018, by Epic Records. The album was launched in Nairobi, Kenya, and was sponsored by Tanzanian telecommunications company Halotel. She made her entrance into the album launch with best friend Willy Paul on her side. The African Princess is an album which showcases the way in which several music genres have influenced, and been 'swahilised', to form Bongo Flava. Despite often being referred to as the 'Queen of Bongo Flava', the title of the album instead refers to her as 'The Princess', testament to the growth she still hopes to make in terms of her career. This is despite her being considered a powerhouse in the African music industry, having amassed more than 100 million views on YouTube over her career. Nandy (singer)
Faustina Charles Mfinanga (born November 9, 1992), popularly known by her stage name Nandy is a Tanzanian actress, singer and songwriter of Pare heritage, she was born and raised in the city of Moshi in Kilimanjaro Region. She won the All Africa Music Awards twice in the best female artist in East Africa category in 2017 and 2020. Early life Nandy was born in Moshi, Tanzania to Mary Charles, a tailor and Charles Mfinanga, a mechanic. The name Nandy is shortened from her real name Nandera. She started performing at a very tender age. At 5 years of age, she was an active member of her Sunday school choir at KKKT Lutheran church in Moshi. She attended Mawenzi Primary School and later joined Lomwe High School where she became the head of School choir. Bongo Flava
Bongo Flava (or Bongoflava) is a nickname for Tanzanian music. The genre developed in the 1990s, mainly as a derivative of American hip hop and traditional Tanzanian styles such as taarab and dansi, with additional influences from reggae, R&B, and afrobeats, to form a unique style of music.Mueller, Gavin.
