The Adventures Of Bill Lance
''The Adventures of Bill Lance'' is a 30-minute radio crime drama, created by J. Donald Wilson, which aired on two networks in two runs between 1944 and 1948. Initially heard on CBS West Coast Sundays at 9 p.m., the series began April 23, 1944, with John McIntire as Bill Lance, a detective who traveled to exotic locales. Pat McGeehan took over the role the following March until the series ended September 9, 1945. Howard McNear played Lance's pal, Ulysses Higgins. Others in the cast included Mercedes McCambridge, Cathy Lewis, Joseph Kearns and Frank Graham. The announcers were Dick Joy and Owen James. Milton Charles supplied the music. John McIntire
John Herrick McIntire (June 27, 1907 – January 30, 1991) was an American character actor who appeared in 65 theatrical films and many television series. McIntire is well known for having replaced Ward Bond, upon Bond's sudden death in November 1960, as the star of NBC's ''Wagon Train''. He played Christopher Hale, the leader of the wagon train (and successor to Bond's character, Seth Adams) from early 1961 to the series' end in 1965. He also replaced Charles Bickford, upon Bickford's death in 1967, as ranch owner Clay Grainger (brother of Bickford's character) on NBC's '' The Virginian'' for four seasons. Gerald Mohr (June 11, 1914 – November 9, 1968) was an American radio, film, and television character actor and frequent leading man, who appeared in more than 500 radio plays, 73 films, and over 100 television shows. Early years Mohr was born in Manhattan to Henrietta (née Neustadt), a singer, and Sigmond Mohr. He was educated in Dwight Preparatory School in Manhattan, where he learned to speak French and German and also learned to ride horses and play the piano. At Columbia University, where he was on a course to become a doctor, Mohr was struck with appendicitis and was recovering in a hospital when another patient, a radio broadcaster, realised Mohr's pleasant baritone voice would be ideal for radio. Howard McNear
Howard Terbell McNear (January 27, 1905 – January 3, 1969) was an American stage, screen, and radio character actor. McNear is best remembered as the original voice of Doc Adams in the radio version of ''Gunsmoke'' and as Floyd Lawson, the barber on ''The Andy Griffith Show'' (1961–1967). Career McNear studied at the Oatman School of Theater and later joined a stock company in San Diego. McNear also worked in radio from the late 1930s, including in the 1937–1940 radio serial '' Speed Gibson of the International Secret Police'' as ace operator Clint Barlow. Planters Nut & Chocolate Company is an American snack food company now owned by Hormel Foods. Planters is best known for its processed nuts and for the Mr. Peanut icon that symbolizes them. Mr. Peanut was created by grade schooler Antonio Gentile for a 1916 contest to design the company's brand icon. The design was modified by a commercial artist and has continued to change over the years. History Planters was founded by Italian immigrant Amedeo Obici in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Dick Joy (December 28, 1915 – October 31, 1991) was an American radio and television announcer. A journalism major at the University of Southern California, he went on to become well known on network radio and television. Early years Joy's involvement with radio at the local level began when, while a student at USC, he worked part-time for radio stations in Los Angeles, California. His first job after graduation was at KEHE, and he later joined the announcing staff of KNX. Radio career At age 21, Joy moved up from the local level to CBS, becoming that network's youngest staff announcer in history.
