The Adventure Of Sudsakorn
''The Adventure of Sudsakorn'' ( th, สุดสาคร, also ''The Adventure of Sud Sakorn'', ''Sudsakhorn Adventure'', or ''Soodsakorn'') is a 1979 Thai animated fantasy film. The only cel-animated feature film ever made in Thailand, it was directed by Payut Ngaokrachang. It was released in Thailand on Songkran Day, April 13, 1979. Since then, it has occasionally been seen at film festivals around the world but has not been made available for international audiences on DVD or video. The story is based on ''Phra Aphai Mani'', a 30,000-line epic written by Thailand's best-known poet, Sunthorn Phu. In 2006, the story was adapted into a Thai live-action fantasy film, '' The Legend of Sudsakorn''. Payut Ngaokrachang
Payut Ngaokrachang ( th, ปยุต เงากระจ่าง, April 1, 1929 – May 27, 2010) was a Thai cartoonist and animator. He created Thai cinema's first cel-animated feature film, ''The Adventure of Sudsakorn''. Biography Early life Payut was born at Klong Warl village, Warkoe, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. As a child, Payut was interested in nang drama ( shadow-puppet plays) and Felix the Cat. In 1944, he enrolled in classes to become an art teacher. Payut studied by correspondence with illustrator Hem Vejakorn, whose work was seen on the covers of 10-satang pulp novels. Through their letters back and forth, Hem introduced Payut to drawing. "I had been a fan of Khru Hem’s drawings since 1944, when I was 14. So, I wrote him asking to become his student. He was a great teacher and taught me a lot, from how to draw anatomy to getting the right perspective on paintings. ''Khan Kluay'' ( th, ก้านกล้วย; ) is a 2006 Thai computer-animated adventure film set in Ayutthaya-era Siam about a Thai elephant who wanders away from his mother and becomes the war elephant for King Naresuan. It is based on the story ''Chao Phraya Prap Hongsawadee '' by Ariya Jintapanichkarn. The film took three years to make, and was released on May 18, 2006 in Thailand. In 2008, the film was released as ''The Blue Elephant'' in the United States on September 2, and as ''Jumbo'' in India in December 25. Sudsakorn ( th, สุดสาคร, , ) is a fictional character in Sunthorn Phu's story ''Phra Aphai Mani'', written in Thailand during the Rattanakosin period. Sudsakorn, the son of Phra Aphaimani and a mermaid, was born at Ko Kaeo Phitsadan (เกาะแก้วพิสดาร, Magical Island) without ever having seen his father. His adventure begins after he grows up and begins his quest for his father. The story incorporates much of the hero's journey narrative archetype. Synopsis On a magical island called "Ko Kaeo Phitsadan" (เกาะแก้วพิสดาร), a mermaid gives birth to a child named "Sudsakorn" (สุดสาคร) which means "the edge of the sea". Sunthorn Phu
Phra Sunthorn Vohara (Phu) ( th, พระสุนทรโวหาร (ภู่), , ; 26 June 1786 – 1855), known as Sunthorn Phu ( th, สุนทรภู่, , ), is Thailand's best-known royal poet. He wrote during the Rattanakosin period. Phu's career as a royal poet began in the reign of King Rama II, and when the king died, he resigned from the role and became a monk. Twenty years later, in the reign of King Rama III, he returned to court as a royal scribe, where he remained for the rest of his life. Phu was renowned for composing verse, and his epic poetry is popular in Thailand to the present day.
