The Activist (1969 Film)
''The Activist'' is a 1969 American drama film directed by Art Napoleon and written by Art Napoleon and Jo Napoleon. It depicts the conflicts of a college student who, after appearing on television news decrying the Vietnam War, is torn between engaging in further anti-war protests and settling for conventional happiness with his new girlfriend. The film stars Michael Smith, who had been an actual member of the Oakland Seven, an anti-war group involved in the planning of the 1967 Stop the Draft Week. Co-star Lesley Taplin also alternated between community activism and acting at the time of production. Also starring in the film are Tom Maier and Brian Murphy. Also, the parents of filmmaker Michael Ritchie, Benbow Ritchie and Patricia Ritchie, briefly appear as a suburban couple upset by the lead character when he appears in their neighborhood. Michael Spears
Michael Spears (born December 28, 1977) is an American actor. He is a member of the Kul Wicasa Oyate Lakota people, Lakota (often called "Sioux") Lower Brulé Tribe of South Dakota. Early life Michael Spears was born in Chamberlain, South Dakota on the Lower Brule Indian Reservation, Lower Brulé Lakota Sioux Reservation to Native American parents and lived there until he was in fifth grade. After that, his family moved to Pierre, South Dakota. Later, his family moved to Aberdeen, South Dakota where he grew up and graduated Simmons Middle School then Aberdeen Central High School (Aberdeen, South Dakota), Central High School, graduating in 1995. A member of the Sicangu Sioux people, Lakota nation from the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, he has six siblings. The Young Democratic Socialists of America (YDSA) is the youth section of the Democratic Socialists of America. The organization was known as Young Democratic Socialists (YDS) until 2017. History Formerly known as the Democratic Socialists of America Youth Section, the organization played a significant role in the 1980s in the movements against apartheid in South Africa and United States intervention in Central America.
