The 8TV Quickie
''The 8TV Quickie'' was a both 15-minute and 1 minute short variety show that aired every night at 9:30pm, 10:30pm (or 10:00 pm on certain days) and 11:30pm (or 12:00 am / 12:30 am on certain days), on 8TV. The first two air for one minute as a sneak preview, and the last one, the regular edition, is 15 minutes with a single commercial break. The last opening sequence of the show features the song " We Are Over Here" by Malaysian band, Dash. In the main 15-minute show, the hosts usually introduces the preview of a current movie, play creative games and receive calls from the audience to participate in contests to win prizes. Occasionally, celebrities come on as guests of the show or music bands perform on the show. A video jockey (abbreviated VJ or sometimes veejay) is an announcer or host who introduces music videos and live performances on commercial music television channels such as MTV, VH1, MuchMusic and Channel V. Origins The term "video jockey" comes from the term "disc jockey", "DJ" ("deejay") as used in radio. Music Television (MTV) popularized the term in the 1980s (see List of MTV VJs). The MTV founders got their idea for their VJ host personalities from studying Merrill Aldighieri's club. Aldighieri worked in the New York City nightclub Hurrah, which was the first to make a video installation as a prominent featured component of the club's design with multiple monitors hanging over the bar and dance floor. ''One in a Million'' (often abbreviated ''OIAM'') is a Malaysian reality-competition show. It is the first reality singing competition to offer a RM 1 million prize to the winner. The show began airing on 8TV, a terrestrial television station in Malaysia, on 26 May 2006. ''One in a Million'' seeks to discover the best young singer in the country through several auditions held nationwide. The objective of awarding a large amount of prize money is to provide the winner with quality production and marketing resources. In the later stages of the competition the progress of the contestants is determined by public voting by phone or text messaging.
